In addition, Old Tappan has many places for a person and a leashed pup to check out together. The Bonnabel Nature Park is a very small piece of wooded grounds. It has fewer than four acres and features a long path through the woods. The path is an earthen walkway and takes a hiker along the Hackensack River. Several picnic tables make this a good destination for a lunch or snack outside with your furry pal.

Rockleigh Woods Sanctuary is located five miles east of Old Tappan. Rockleigh has 200 wooded acres of recreational green space for you and your pup to explore together. Rockleigh has several trails consisting of five miles for hiking with your leashed canine companion.

The Poplar Road Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the adjoining community of River Vale. Poplar offers more green spaces for you and your leashed dog to experience. Several trails wind through the forests. Poplar has river access, which makes it pawpular with anglers and water lovers. Back in town, Oakes Park attracts residents to its landscaped grounds, which include a beautiful fountain, a gazebo, and several benches.

A separately fenced section keeps the small dogs safe while they play with their diminutive buddies. Drinking water is available on-site, and water bowls are provided by the dog park. A hose helps fill up those kiddie pools when the summer months make wearing a fur coat a hot proposition. The ground is covered with mulch and dirt. A good rinse off with the hose is all that's needed to spruce up for the ride home. The human companions appreciate the numerous benches positioned around the enclosures.

This dog park doesn't have the mud problems which plague many of the grassy dog parks in the area. Pieces of agility equipment are an added bonus.
