Watertown City Center
Watertown City Center is not short on green space and parks where you can walk your dog! One of the most popular parks is the Historic Thompson Park. This area has a high elevation, and features a lookout point with sweeping views of the city of Watertown. It also features athletic fields, playgrounds, and scenic walking trails that are easy on the eyes and the paws. During the winter, there are cross-country ski trails. Dogs are welcome of course, as long as they stay leashed and are picked up after. If you and your pooch are craving a treat, head over to April’s Cake Shop in the same neighborhood. This cake shop offers delicious pastries and has dog-friendly outdoor tables.

Arsonal
The neighborhood of Arsonal is straddling the Black River, giving residents and dogs of this area plenty of nearby nature. Along the Black River there are several parks, with scenic views of the river, trails, and picnic areas. One of these is the Bicentennial Park. This park has a great multi-use trail that has benches and viewing areas along the way. It’s often used for biking, cross-country skiing, and of course, dog walking! Another similar urban park just east along the river is the Veteran’s Memorial Riverwalk Park. This park also features a small pavillion and observation deck. Both of these parks welcome leashed dogs, so get ready to make some furry friends! On a hot day, you and your pooch can go enjoy an ice cream cone at the Byrne Dairy Store, a family owned restaurant and producer of dairy products and more. Best of all, they have dog friendly outdoor tables!

Calcium
Just south of Watertown is the hamlet of Calcium. In this tiny town, you can find more great places to walk your dog and meet some other dog pals! Here you can find the Kanik Nature Trail. This 2 mile trail has a crushed gravel surface and is a pawpular place for dog walkers, bikers, and nature lovers alike. Along the way, the trial features ¼ mile markers, benches and picnic tables. There is even a pond where you and your pupper can enjoy watching the geese in the spring or fall. Well-behaved dogs are allowed on the trail of course, as long as they stay leashed and are picked up after.

Henderson Harbor
Just a short trot to the city of Henderson brings you to some great outdoor opportunities to share with your lively pup! The Henderson Harbor neighborhood is where you can find the beautiful Westcott Beach State Park. This state park is just 20 minutes away from Watertown and has 318 acres of rolling meadows and wooded areas along the Henderson Bay. Here you can try your hand at some fishing, enjoy swimming on the beach or hiking. Why not kick back and stay a while? There are campsites located along the scenic bluffs that welcome up to two pets. Leashed dogs are also allowed along the trails and throughout the park, except for the picnic and bathing areas.

The Village
If you and your wild dog are itching to get back into nature, go visit The Village neighborhood in the city of Copenhagen. Less than 30 minutes north of Watertown, it’s from this area you can access the beautiful Tug Hill State Forest. It’s situated on the northern slope of the Tug Hill Plateau. This state forest is approximately 12,000 acres, featuring trails and cross-country skiing. The Home Run Trail is a one mile pathway through the European Larch and Red Pine forests. For more of a challenge, check out the 1.7 mile Inman Glide Trail! This trail offers scenic views to the Rainbow Falls and the Inman Gulf. Leashed dogs are welcome throughout the park, as long as they’re picked up after and don’t disturb the wildlife.
