Introduction
Dog Names That Start With 'Mc' in Pop Culture
Sometimes people may wish that they could see the ghost of their good ol' pal just once more. In the case of Dr. Calvin Cambell in the 1976 show McDuff, the Talking Dog that is exactly what happened! While McDuff, the ghost of an Old English Sheepdog, wasn't actually the doctor's pet in the past, he did hang around the home where Dr. Cambell lived. Not only could McDuff speak to other animals he encountered, but of course, he could talk to the doctor as well; however, only Dr.Cambell was able to hear McDuff, which leads up to some interesting situations within the show. Along with Dr.Cambell, his little sister, Kimmy, and Mrs. Osgood (the housekeeper) lived in the haunted home. Despite the show airing for a couple of months, it wasn't as popular as the producers hoped, as it was cancelled before even the last two episodes could be aired. Perhaps this was due to the fact that people don't really care for ghost dogs; even if they are adorable Old English Sheep Dogs.
Another dog that sports a "Mc" name in pup-culture, is Eddie McDowd, from the TV series 100 Deeds for Eddie McDowd (1999). This TV show, released by Nickelodeon, was about a bully at school who was turned into a dog for his bad behavior and ran for three seasons before it's completion in 2002. As the name implies, in order to be turned back into a human, Eddie must perform 100 good deeds to make up for all of the bad ones he has committed in the past. The dog that Eddie McDowd is transformed into is an Australian Shepherd, Siberian Husky mix. Not only is this a beautiful dog, but also extremely intelligent (which is helpful considering all of the deeds that must be accomplished)! There is no surprise why a dog would have been chosen for the animal that McDowd is transformed into. Dogs are always trying their best to please their masters and live their best lives; full of love and happiness. As a dog, McDowd was able to learn what true love and humility mean, along with growing into a better person who understands that bullying is never the answer. If you have dogs that match these names or the values that these dogs represent (dependability, playfulness, kindness, and fun) then perhaps either "McDowd" or "McDuff" may be the perfect name.
