Final Fantasy Dog Names

Angelo can be seen in Final Fantasy VIII. She is the main dog in the game and is the pet of Rinoa Heartilly, the female lead. Angelo goes a bit outside of the norm when it comes to Final Fantasy creatures, as she resembles that of an actual dog breed. She was created to be an Australian Shepherd and is two years old when the game's storyline takes place. 

The reason why Angelo plays such a key part in the game, is because she aid's with Rinoa's skill set in battle. Primarily, Angelo is the Limit Break (or an attack that triggers when the character is low in health) and attacks using one of her four aggressive tricks. There are multiple tricks that can be learned throughout the game and the player gets to choose which ones are taught to Angelo from the "Pet Pals" magazine found in city shops. Besides the aggressive skills used for the Limit Break, Angelo also has a few key passive skills that can be used without player command throughout the battle. These include searching the battlefield for any hidden items, counterattacking an enemy who has dealt damage to Rinoa, and recovering any party member that is either knocked out or extremely low on health. 

There are quite a few other dogs that show up within the Final Fantasy world, in fact, even within the same game as Angelo. However, none of them have such a key role. Angelo stays by Rinoa's side throughout most of the game, being a constant companion and a true aid in battle. The breed that the designers chose couldn't be more perfect for Angelo as the Australian Shepherd is an extremely smart dog that is loyal, easy to train, and very affectionate. All of these traits are perfect for that classic hero dog that sticks through thick and thin for the sake of their owner.
