Introduction

For many people, Halloween is the purrfect night to let their hair down and have some fun. This ancient tradition once celebrated in the British Isles has evolved over the centuries into a modern holiday celebrated all over the world.

Cats have often been associated with the scary-but-fun holiday, and the mental picture of a cat on a fence with an arched back silhouetted against the moon is commonly used in today’s Halloween decorations, goody bags, and costumes. Even cakes and cookies are decorated with the iconic image, along with witches, skeletons, skulls, and other Halloween-esque symbols.

While a skinny black cat may be most symbolic for many, cats of any size, color, and shape can come to the party! For people who love this holiday, or have a cat born or adopted on October 31st, a Halloween-inspired name is purrfect! We’ve collected a few creepy, sinister, and just plain fun names to get your kitty-naming creativity flowing.

Considerations for Halloween-Inspired Cat Names

While any cat can get in on the fun, there may be some that are really in the Halloween-inspired groove. As mentioned earlier, black cats are most likely to come to mind. These ebony felines have throughout history had a reputation for being the animal form or “familiar” of witches and other sinister, supernatural creatures, including Satan. When was the last time a black cat crossed your path without you thinking of the tales of a curse following?

Some people think ginger cats are mischievous, and felines with extra toes or missing tails can represent witchery. Cats who are innocent and loving the rest of the year may seem to behave differently around Halloween, especially if there’s a full moon.

If you have a cat, especially a black one, spooky Halloween is the time for them to shine. If they also have a Halloween-inspired name, they’ll serve as a reminder of the creepiest holiday of the year.
