Howl's Moving Castle Dog Names

Just like his name sounds, Heen is somewhat of a relaxed, tired character. His appearance is that of a mixture between a Dachshund, Bloodhound, and perhaps even the DNA  of a mop, with white and tan fur. This interesting look is completed with a yellow toupee, that truly, only he can pull off. This little dog is discovered in the film of Howl's Moving Castle and is the old, unwanted pet of the evil Madame Suliman. As can be imagined with a master like Suliman, Heen spends his days lying under the table (full of sighs) just hoping to go unseen. Of course, as many of you may be thinking, this is no life for a dog! That is why, when Sophie and her crew stumble into the picture, Heen has a very important decision to make. Thanks to the smarts he has acquired in his old age,  Heen realizes that Sophie is someone that he should be loyal to. This realization comes after Sophie accidentally mistakes Heen for Howl in a dog disguise and proceeds to fill the unsuspecting dog in on the plan to sabotage the Madame Suliman, his very own master! However, it is not the plan that captures Heen's attention, but rather the way that Sophie wants to hatch the idea in the nicest way possible, so as to bring as little suffering to Suliman as possible. Obviously, Heen was touched by this and at the first chance he got, the old dog escaped the confines of his previous life to join Sophie's unique family in the moving castle. This isn't to say that Heen is a disloyal dog; not in the slightest. It merely shows how much dogs appreciate a kind and loving owner.

While the name "Heen" does not seem to have any kind of particular meaning in the Japanese language, in analyzing it through the Kabalarian Philosophy Website, we can learn a number of different things that actually match this little dog's personality spot on! For instance, the name Heen means that you have a quick and analytical mind. This is well proven when Heen decides a better life for himself just based on the way he analyzes Sophie's character. We can also see this in the dog, Heen, as during his time in Madame Suliman's care, he did nothing but sit around and sigh underneath the table. But once he was free to travel in the moving castle with a family that offers him love and new changes every day, he becomes more responsive and happy. 

Of course, not all name analyses are true fact, but it is interesting to see how this one character in Howl's Moving Castle can add a whole new dimension to the story and shine a light on how important receiving love is to someone who may never experience it.
