Introduction

If you are a fan of Hayao Miyazaki, or just classic anime films in general, then you have definitely heard of the movie Howl's Moving Castle (2004). In fact, those who have witnessed the true genius of this film might have watched it multiple times, memorizing the lines and the beautiful music that accompanies them. For those who have not seen the film, it is strongly encouraged that you do, as the characters are deep and the story is captivating. An interesting fact about the story Howl's Moving Castle is that it was first a novel; written by the extremely talented Diana Wynne Jones in 1986. The book was published by the Greenwillow Books of New York and it captured hearts right from the start. A short synopsis of the story is an account of an unconfident young woman by the name of Sophie, who works in a hat shop. When she is cursed by a spiteful old witch, Sophie must travel to find a traveling wizard by the name of Howl. While this wizard is a bit self-centered and hard to read, eventually the tale brings to light his true, insecure nature, and the two characters grow together as the journey unfolds. Just like any tale, the book tends to have more in-depth details than the film. However, no matter which version of Howl's Moving Castle you may decide to check out, there is no doubt that it will quickly grow to be a favorite.

Howl's Moving Castle Dog Name Considerations

As the plot of Howl's Moving Castle takes place in a number of different realms, many kinds of breeds would be perfect to bear a moniker from the story. For instance, as the book unfolds, it is clear that mystery has a large part to play with the development of the characters; along with the understanding that people should be confident in who they are. Because of this, a Siberian Husky would be an excellent choice for some of the names that can be found in Howl's Moving Castle, perhaps even the name "Howl" itself! Another excellent choice for a Siberian could be "Maggi" (which is a play on the word magic) as Siberian's have captivating eyes and tend to be modern day Houdini's when it comes to escaping. If you have a small, mischievous dog, the name "Calcifer" could be perfect. This name is attached to the fire demon that resides in Howl's castle. He is sometimes rude and, of course, a trouble maker but being made of fire, he does have a warm spot for his companions (in a good way of course).

Sticking to the Japanese theme of the tale, as it is made in an anime style, breeds such as the Akita, Shiba Inu, Japanese Spitz, and Japanese Chin would be excellent candidates for sporting a Howl's Moving Castle themed name. The Shiba Inu would fit the name "Sophie" perfectly. This is because Sophie's character is a bit under confident and quite shy, especially when she first meets new people or situations. She likes to be tidy and within her routine, never fully believing that she can accomplish what she sets out to do. However, as she grows in character and learns to accept herself, Sophie is bolder and care-free with a loyal and loving personality, just like the Shiba Inu!
