Introduction
Lapponian Herder Dog Names in Pop Culture
Heidi was born on May 9, 1955 and was as energetic as they come. Many times the President and his wife had to try and restrain Heidi from giving unwanted welcomes to guests of the White House as she loved to jump up on them in order to give a "proper" hello. While loving and very protective of her owners, Heidi had a few flaws that definitely caused her to be a challenge to keep out of trouble; one of which was a weak bladder. This sassy little dog is quite possibly the only dog in history to hold the account of being banned from the White House, and it is all thanks to that bladder flaw of hers.
According to multiple accounts, Heidi had had a few accidents around the White House, but the one that got her into the most trouble was when she decided to have an accident on an extremely pricey rug that was decorating the diplomatic reception room. At the time, the rug was already quite expensive at $20,000 but with inflation that bumps up the cost of that beautiful rug to around $160,000 in 2013. It's no wonder that there was a bit of an uproar when it became soiled! Thankfully, Heidi was forgiven for the incident, but President Eisenhower decided that it would probably be best to send her to live comfortably at their farm in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania; which was probably the best move for everyone.
If you have a pup that tends to have accidents, or perhaps one that is just as lovely as the sweet Heidi from the novel, then perhaps this would be a good name to consider. Regardless of which version of the name you'd like to represent, there is no doubt that "Heidi" is a simple and classic name that is not only gorgeous, but also unique and very memorable.
