Introduction
Psych Dog Names in Pop Culture
When watching the TV show Psych it is easy to fall in love with the characters due to their quirky and hilarious personalities. Gus, Shawn's best friend, is a perfect example as he is loyal, but occasionally gets frustrated with all of Shawn's antics. He is a great balance to the ever jumping into trouble Shawn! To represent this awesome character's name, we are looking at a gorgeous white Siberian Husky who played a heart warming character in the movie Iron Will (1994). This movie is about a man named Will Stoneman who decides to travel to Canada after his father encountered a fatal accident while dog sledding. Will now has to support his family's farm, and to do so he takes his father's sled dogs with Gus (the white Husky) at the helm, and enters into the sled dog race that his father would have participated in.
The story follows Will's struggle through racing and how much of a toll the weather played on his body, almost making it impossible to complete the race. However, the most important and one of the most heart-warming moments of the film is how much Gus struggles right alongside him. Gus was Will's father's lead dog, meaning that they had a close and unbreakable bond. Throughout the race, some of the competitors against Will tried to injure Gus in order to end Will's chances of winning, but that didn't stop the resilient team and their leader. Clear to the very end, Gus held onto his inner fire and pulled the team, even when Will was shutting down.
Right before they reached the finish line, however, Will collapses from exhaustion. Gus stays by his side, unsure of what to do until suddenly, he hears a familiar whistle on the other side of the finish line. Ned Dodd, a friend of Will's father, whistles for Gus in the same way that his old master used to. It was this simple familiarity that caused Gus to struggle forward the last few feet to pull Will and his team across the line; winning the race and saving their farm. It is this strong remembrance of his master that makes this moment so special and truly brings to light how amazing the bond is between dog and owner. Gus was a loyal and hard working dog, giving his all clear to the last second. That's why he makes a great example of the Gus from Psych who stuck by his best friend no matter how perilous the situation.
