Introduction
Ratatouille Inspired Dog Names in Pop Culture
If you love Pixar, then you may know how much the studio enjoys sneaking little Easter eggs into all of their products. One such example is the dog, Dug, from Pixar's classic hit Up. When we first meet Dug, we see that he is a loving and slightly dopey dog who really likes to look on the bright side of life. He becomes fast friends with Carl and the young Russel as they head out on their adventures to settle Carl's house above the falls he's always dreamed of. While at first Dug may not be very liked by Carl, the fluffy goofball slowly grows on the old man and you can tell that warmth develops. While you may have loved Dug in Up, you may not know that his very first appearance was not in Up, but actually was in Ratatouille! You may be wondering how this could be, but if you watch the movie once more, you will catch the Easter egg right away.
Earlier on in the movie, when Remy is still lost down in the sewers of London, we know that Gusteau encourages the little rat to not give up, and to go above ground in order to look around. In order to do this, Remy must head through a few people's houses and at this time, we get our first glimpse of our beloved Dug the dog. Right after Remy almost witnesses a murder, when a young couple fires a gun into the ceiling during a fight, he stumbles into a home where he is startled by a barking dog. Although the shadow is all we are able to see, with closer inspection (and knowing who Dug is thanks to Up) it is easy to identify Dug's round form, floppy ears, and fluffy tail. What makes this Easter egg extremely cool is that it takes place about two years before Up is released, making it a prediction egg!
The name of "Dug" would be perfect for any dog, of any size, that shows those same lovable characteristics of Dug. He is a total people person and seems to know no stranger, but is definitely an underdog as he is quite terrified of Alpha and the rest of the dog pack. However, don't let that detail deter you from choosing this name for your furry friend! Dug is truly an adorable Pixar dog name that represents a lot of great qualities we appreciate in dogs.
