Introduction

When it comes to dog names, sometimes short, sweet, and to the point is the best way to go. A short and concise name can not only be cute, but also perfect for perhaps, working or show dogs where commands need to be given crisply. Shorter dog names are also perfect for fitting well on a dog tag, personalized items (such as bandanas or blankets) and will fit both small and large dogs alike wonderfully! Whether you want a short name for it's meaning or simply how it sounds, there is no doubt that names under five letters are perfect.

Short Dog Name Considerations

If you are looking to choose a name for your new pup, there are quite a few different factors that can contribute to deciding on a shorter name. Excellent candidates for bearers of a short dog name could be working dogs, show dogs, or even dog breeds that are physically short such as Dachshunds, Affenpinschers, Yorkshire Terriers, Corgis, and Chihuahuas to name a few. Because names that consist of 5 or less letters are rather easy to come by, it will be easy to find one from a favorite movie, television show, or book. Lots of celebrities have also owned dogs with shorter names, like the Obama's dogs "Sunny" and "Bo" or John Legend's many Bulldogs Puddy, Penny, Pippa, and Pooey (he must really like alliteration)!

Because of the common nature of short names and words, it won't be difficult to find one that either represents personality, origin, color, or even a representation of a favorite character through your pup. If you like the Legend of Zelda video games, then names like "Epona", "Link", or "Midna" would be excellent choices. Perhaps you like to travel to Hawaii or have lived there at one time; names like "Kona" or "Kana" could be perfect for you.
