Introduction
Wreck-It Ralph Dog Names in Pop Culture
The movie Wreck-It-Ralph does an amazing job of turning inanimate objects into awesome characters that really bring the movie to life. For instance, Oreos become guards, sour gumballs become interesting sidekicks, and devil's food cake Twinkies become guard dogs. That's right, the sweet and delicious snacks filled with yummy cream are vicious search dogs that aid in the hunt for Ralph and Vanellope. When King Candy sends out his henchmen, Wynnchel and Duncan, the Devil Dogs accompany them to find Vanellope's secret hideout. Even though these strange creatures are out for no good, they are still cute with their wiggly bodies and red spiked collars. The Devil Dogs are eager to please the two henchmen, so it's clear to see that even though they are food, the twinkie-like dogs are still just that- dogs.
Interestingly enough, the Devil Dogs are actually based on a treat in real life! The real Devil Dogs are a classic snack cake that was originally made by Drake's baking company, and then later by Hostess. Unfortunately, Hostess shut down in November of 2012, just a little while after the movie of Wreck-It-Ralph was released. So while they aren't being made in real life any longer, the delicious goodies live on in the film we know and love so well.
While the Devil Dogs are awesome, they can't take all of the spotlight, as we have another Pop Culture dog that shares almost the same name as our favorite, big-hearted villain. It's Rowlf from the Muppets! There is a large debate going on over how Rowlf's name is actually pronounced; whether it is the same as "Ralph" or if it rhymes more with "golf". Whatever the case may be, this shaggy brown dog has touched the hearts of many people over the years. He is musically talented, funny, sweet, and loyal as they come. In fact, Ralph is the first Muppet to reach national stardom status as he was part of the Jimmy Dean Show for quite a few years before he went on the be the official piano player for the Muppet Show. He has been in Purina Dog Food commercials, Esskay Meats ads, and in 1963 Rowlf was offered a sales film gig for the American Photocopy Equipment Company. Needless to say, he was a very popular puppet and loved by many.
Both of these pop culture doggos are fun, family friendly, and straight up adorable. The world is a better place having such cute characters in them and without a doubt, they bring many smiles to anyone who watches them on the big (or little) screen.
