Pleasant Valley Town Center
This neighborhood is home to the Mill Site Museum and Memorial Park at the location of the former Lott’s Mill. The museum is open until dusk every day, and Fido is welcome to visit the park on leash, to sit with his human on a bench, or stroll around the grounds on the walkways, down to the wooded area along the Creek, or through the grass. This neighborhood also hosts the dog-friendly Cady Recreation Park, which consists of ball fields and a picnic pavilion, along with launch areas for canoe and kayak access to Wappingers Creek, which the park bisects. The grounds are grassy and feature shade trees and flowers, making this a pleasant place to walk with your fur-baby, or to down a blanket and have a nap. Lastly, you’ll find Bower Park in the Town Center neighborhood as well. This popular park features almost 2 miles of walking trails on its 20 acres, and access to Wappingers Creek, too. Woofderful!

Salt Point
The Salt Point neighborhood is host to the Helen Aldrich Park, 14 acres consisting of a softball field and basketball court, tennis court and playground for the human members of the family, and a huge open meadow where you and your fur-pup can romp and play. It is not fenced, so your pup must be on leash or good at voice control. After all that play, it might be a good idea to head over to the pavilion for a picnic lunch or dinner. The park has convenient parking, too. This is a family-oriented, activity park and the canine member of the family will certainly have fun here as well!

This neighborhood in Poughkeepsie is the home of the dog-friendly Walkway Over the Hudson, a rail-trail that spans the Hudson River connecting Poughkeepsie with the town of Lloyd on the west bank of the river. With nearby free parking and an elevator from ground level to the walkway, nothing could be more convenient or fun! And of course, Fido is welcome for this unique walking experience! Poughkeepsie is a mere 8 miles from Pleasant Valley, but you can hike for as long, or as short, as your pup likes. Freedom Plains is a neighborhood in Poughkeepsie that contains the dog-friendly James Baird State Park, which is located on almost 600 acres of former farmland. There are many activities for humans to enjoy such as golfing on the 18-hole course and playing various sports. Peach Hill Park can be found in this Poughkeepsie neighborhood. The park features the highest point in Poughkeepsie with views of the surrounding towns, along with 3.5 miles of walking trails through a former apple orchard over its 160-acre land. The trails traverse wetland, farmland/orchard and local historical sites. Many of the apple trees still flourish here, and you’re invited to bring Fido while you enjoy the fragrant apple blossoms in the spring or pick apples in the fall. Truly a 4-season park, it also features cross country skiing and snowshoeing in winter. Many species of birds are on display year-round, both residents in the park and the twice-a-year migratory ones.
