Dog Areas in Washingtonville

Washingtonville is a small town with a population of a little over 5,000 people. It is located in the southern part of New York. This modest city is paralleled by Moodna Creek and is easily described as quaint. There are two vet clinics that are rather close to each other here; in fact, they’re on the same street. The city is also in the process of establishing a new dog park!

About 9 miles away is Schunnemunk Mountain State Park. Within the park are two trails: Earl Reservoir Loop and Schunnemunk Sweet Clover Trail. The loop is 2.2 miles in length and welcomes dogs on leashes. If you want a longer trail, don't fret! Sweet Clover is 6.9 miles in length and also welcomes dogs on leashes.

There are also a few Fido-friendly restaurants within a three-minute drive of each other. Brotherhood Winery is an establishment with open seating in an outdoor area that welcomes dog owners. The Vinum Cafe, a French-American cafe, along with Betty’s Country Kitchen also have outdoor patio seating where dogs are allowed and offers a decent space for the entire family.

The town of Cornwall is a quick 13-minute drive away. In this town there is an open dog park, Cornwall Bark Park. When entering and exiting the park, dogs must be leashed. However, once the gate is closed, they are free to have fun! They have separate areas for large (above 30 lbs) and small dogs (30 lbs or less). If you are seeking a place to hike, look no further than Storm King State Park. The trail is 3.5 miles in length and is open to leashed pooches. If after either of those you get hungry, make your way to Storm King Tavern where you and Fido can have a nice view of the Hudson Highlands golf course!

If you are in need of more trails, here is where you can find them! Only 7.5 miles away from Washingtonville is the town of Chester. There are two hiking trails in the more southern part of Chester. Both trails vary in length. First is the Goose Pond Mountain Trail. This trail is 5.15 miles in length and dogs are allowed on a leash so long as it is not longer than 6 feet. Next is Orange Heritage Trail, a moderate levelled trail located in the Land O Goshen Park. The trail itself is 15 miles in length and certainly dog-friendly. It is suggested that the trail is best walked anytime between March and October.

They also separate the dogs from large (over 30 lbs) to small (30 lbs or less). Out of all of the dog parks, this one has the most expensive membership fee.
