Hi, I'm Becky! I am new to San Diego and one of my favorite things to do is to explore this awesome city with a dog by my side. I've had dogs and cats my whole life, and don't think I could have it any other way. My current best friend/roommate is George, a 5 year old pit bull/lab mix. I understand that all dogs need discipline and respect, with lots of love and exercise. I'll make sure to always keep all dogs super safe and happy.

The city of Bonita, California is located in southern San Diego County. This city is known for its historical impact on the region. The word "bonita" means beautiful in Spanish, and that's the perfect way to describe this city. It got its name from a rancher who grew lemons and lived in the area in the late 1800’s. His ranch was named Bonita. The local post office adopted the name too, and it stuck!
While you're here, you'll want to visit the pawesome Rohr Park, which welcomes furry friends as long as they remain on their leash. There are jogging trails to enjoy with your pooch as well as beautiful undeveloped scenery. The 3-mile long trail is paved, so you will want to be careful of your pup’s paws getting too hot.
You could enjoy a quiet, relaxing picnic at this park with your pal. There is also a pond where you can watch the ducks and other wildlife. Your pooch will love all of the different scents to sniff here. This park is very serene; it has lush green grass and an array of trees that are perfect for shade from the sun. This is a must-see when you come to this city!
Because it's such a small town, Bonita doesn't have many pup-friendly amenities, but that doesn't mean you can't feel at home here! Need a place to stay during your time in Bonita? While there aren't any pet-friendly hotels here, Bonita's AirBnB Rentals offer over 300 homes and apartments for you to choose from. Although many AirBnB rentals allow pets, you'll need to check the pet policy of the place you plan to stay. Pet policies will vary based on host preferences, so be sure to double check when booking your room.
This fur-iendly neighborhood is a great place to enjoy a day in the sun. It's located just 19 miles from Bonita, and is home to the Fiesta Island Off-Leash Dog Park. Your pooch will love the soft sand under his paws and running on the beach. This park is a small island with a beach, and there is a place here where you and your pooch can walk around the outer edge. The water has easy access and your furry friend will have a blast splashing around! There is a designated area that is fenced in so your pooch can get off their leash and enjoy themselves. You will want to make sure to bring extra water, along with an umbrella for shade, since you will be directly in the sun here.
This dog-friendly neighborhood is located 18 miles from Bonita, California and is a great place if you and your pooch want to go to the beach. The Original Dog Beach is located on the north end of Ocean Beach in San Diego. Parking is fairly easy to find, and your pup is allowed to roam off of their leash at any time of the day. Your pooch will love frolicking and digging in the soft sand, and the ocean is easy for your pup to access, too. Your pal can wade in the shallows or go for a deeper dip here! There are other canines that your pup can play with here, too. You'll want to bring supplies to clean up after your pooch, as well as water and an umbrella for shade. This will be a day full of paw-tastic fun!
If you and your pooch are looking for a fun day at the beach, this neighborhood, located just 13 miles from Bonita, has just the place for you! It's home to the Coronado Dog Beach, which is located on the western side of the main beach and is open year-round, 24 hours a day. There is parking available along Ocean Boulevard. You will need to keep your pooch on a leash until you reach the designated off-leash area. There is a fine for not having your canine pal on a leash in this area, so be mindful of that. There are doggie bags provided at the entrance for an easier cleanup. Something to keep in mind is that food is not allowed here. There is a water fountain if your furry friend need to get a drink, but you will want to bring something for shade.
If you're looking to get in some
exercise with your pooch this neighborhood has just the place for you. Just 19 miles from Bonita, you'll find a network of pawesome hiking trails with scenic views. The Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve welcomes you and your
canine friend to enjoy the outdoors away from city life. There are a lot of
trails here, and most are dirt covered. You will need to bring extra water with you. Also, keep an eye out for wildlife, especially snakes that are known to slither along the trail's path! Trees along the trail provide mutts-needed shade on those hot summer days. Put on your hiking shoes, grab your pup’s leash and see how far you
can get on these trails!
