The city of Lomita, California has a Spanish heritage. The word Lomita means “little knoll” in Spanish. This city was also part of Rancho San Pedro, which was part of the Spanish Empire in the late 1700’s. If you're a history buff, you'll love learning more about the city's historical significance while you're here.
If you and your pooch are looking for a great place to dine together, you can grab a bite to eat at the family-owned Lomita’s Best restaurant. It is located right on Lomita Boulevard and is a dog-friendly establishment. It's open everyday, but only serves breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday through Friday. On the weekends, the restaurant is only open from 7am to noon, allowing you to enjoy breakfast or brunch. They welcome your pooch to dine with you as long as they are on a leash. The staff is very friendly and will make both you and your pooch feel very welcome.
In Lomita, there are not a lot of other amenities for dogs, but you can find more activities just a short drive outside of the city. There are other restaurants, parks and beaches for you and your furry friend to check out just a few minutes away!
Best Dog Neighborhoods in Lomita
Did someone say beach trip? Just 8 miles away, you'll find Rosie’s Dog Beach, where your dog can play in the sand and sun and cool off in the water. There is free parking but it is minimal; you may have to pay for metered parking while you're here. The water is easy for your pup to get in, and the soft sand will feel good under his paws. This beach has two different sections: one where your canine pal can run freely off-leash, and one where they must stay on their leash. You will need to keep in mind that you will be in the sun all day, so packing the essentials is very important. You will want to bring plenty of water, doggy waste bags for clean-up and an umbrella for shade since you will be directly in the sun.

This pawesome neighborhood is located 21 miles from Lomita, and is home to the Elysian Park, which is a big chunk of land that you and your pooch can explore. Your pup will need to stay on their leash while you are at this park. There is 570 acres of nature for you and Fido to explore here! Your pup will love sniffing all of the new scents, and you will enjoy the scenic view that this park has to offer. It is like you stepped right into a natural paradise. There are trees for shade and grass to walk on ,along with dirt-covered trails. You will want to come prepared with plenty of water and waste bags for cleaning up. Grab your walking shoes, Fido’s leash and enjoy a day full of nature!
Looking for a natural getaway but don't want to leave the city behind? This neighborhood is the pawfect spot for you! It's home to the Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden. You must keep your canine friend on a leash while you are here. There are so many pawesome things to enjoy here, including easy hiking trails, a pond, a stream, and plenty of wildlife, too. Pack a picnic and enjoy a day in this serene atmosphere. It is important to pack all of the essentials that you will need, such as doggy waste bags, extra water and some snacks. If you're looking for something other than a dog park, give these furrific gardens a try!
If your pup needs to burn off some energy, this neighborhood has just the place for you. It's located 19 miles from Lomita, California and is home to The Culver City Park. This park is free to visit and has quite a lot of room for your pooch to explore. This off-leash dog park is completely fenced-in and separated according to dog size. Seating and shade trees are available, and the park also provides water fountains for owners and dogs. You will want to remember to bring your own doggy waste bags for easier clean-up. Bring your pup’s favorite ball and enjoy a nice game at this park!

This neighborhood is a great place for your canine friend to have some fun. The Oberrieder Dog Park is here, just 19 miles from Lomita. This off-leash dog park has more than just the standard separate areas. Your pooch will love playing on the slide and running around with other canine pals! The park offers water fountains for your pooch to drink from, and there is seating and shade available. Another positive about this park is that the parking is easy to find and there is plenty of it. You will need to bring doggy waste bags for cleaning up after your pup, though. This is a great place for you and your pooch to have a furrific time together!
