Ouray in Colorado, simply called “the Switzerland of America”, is a place surrounded by mountains, breathtaking scenery, and wild nature. The area offers tons of outdoor activities! This is the best destination for two and four-legged adventurers and explorers eager to discover new paths, trails and conquer a few peaks. Apart from parks and adventures, Ouray provides visitors with a number of services, including veterinary clinics in the city and surrounding areas.
Ouray KOA Campground in southwest Colorado entertains guests with majestic alpine views and scenery. The pooch is welcome to join you in an adventure to the mining ghost towns, hitting the miles of walking trails and enjoying a ride on the gondola. Make sure to keep your pup on their leash all the times!
If you want to start exploring the city from the downtown area, check San Juan Scenic Jeep Tours or Colorado West Jeep Tours. Both offer rides along the most impressive and remarkable places in the area. Take a guided tour to beautiful waterfalls, fields of flowers and aspen groves with your leashed pooch at your side.

The small town of Ouray is literally dominated by its downtown area, where you'll find all the recreation, dining, shipping and cultural facilities the city has to offer. Head straight to the intersection of 2nd Street and 8th Avenue, where Ouray Dog Park is located. This is a small fenced area with enough room to run, play, and have fun on a sunny day. The locals are usually very friendly, but there's a chance that you may the sole visitors here! This is a great place to exercise and play fetch, so bring some water and toys with you to have a blast. Hungry? A few eateries on Main Street are happy to welcome your canine friend, such as Maggie’s, serving up flavorful meals at dog-friendly outdoor tables.
Ironton is a ghost town to the south of Ouray offering a thrilling and exciting adventure for every tourist and visitor. There is almost nothing left except abandoned houses and wilderness, but in the northern part of the former town, you will find Ironton Park, which is a part of Ouray Nordic Trails. The place is a favorite destination for tourists during winter, but in summer, the park is just a heaven for dog owners looking for long on-leash walks with pooches. Suitable for hiking, the easy trails here provide an unforgettable adventure through the beautiful nature and scenery.
The road between Ridgway and Ouray is one of the busiest in the area because of visitors traveling back and forth seeking new places, ghost towns, and adventures. If you want to visit Ridgway and find out what is so exciting about the city, hit the road with your pooch and head north. The town is smaller than its southern neighbor, but it has an amazing trail system with a special off-leash area for pups to cool off, swim in the river and have a splashing good time. Make sure to keep an eye on your brave swimmer: the area is not fenced or protected.
One of the most popular parks in Colorado is located just north of Ridgway. You are welcome to join locals and visitors enjoying a number of outdoor activities in the recreation area as well as the campgrounds and scenic mountain views. Here, you'll find a fenced section suitable for playing, picnicking or sniffing all over! Your pup is welcome to join you on fishing or boating trips, and explore the miles of hiking trails (rated from easy to moderate) spread far and wide in the area. If you are looking for a place to stay overnight with your mutt, the park has dog-friendly cabins and tent sites with the necessary amenities included.
You may be surprised, but the small town of Telluride is one the dog-friendliest places in Colorado. Your pooch is welcome to explore the city center on an on-leash stroll while you enjoy the local amenities, shops, and stores. There is an amazing and spacious Town Park just a skip and a hop away from downtown, offering off-leash freedom, lots of room to run, and a friendly local community. For those who like long, challenging walks, the town has a well-maintained system of hiking trails. And if you want to do something really exciting, you're welcome to travel from Telluride to Mountain Village for free on a pet-friendly gondola!
