Downtown Sweetwater
Sweetwater’s downtown area is a fantastic location to explore on foot with a furry friend — the welcoming city blocks and multicultural atmosphere create a setting unlike anywhere else in the country. A good place to begin your walk through this area is on the south border of the neighborhood at Linear Park. Another part of downtown Sweetwater you won’t want to miss is Dominoes Park. The park is named after the community of domino players that has historically met in the covered pavilion area to play their favorite game! Dogs are welcome there as long as they remain on a leash.

North Tamiami
Tamiami’s north section borders Sweetwater to the west, and it is a neighborhood you will definitely want to explore if you’re in the area with your dog. North Trail Park on 127th Avenue is a local favorite for its laid-back atmosphere and proximity to the area’s lakes and ponds. If you venture north of 6th Street, you will be sure to encounter some of the bodies of water; they provide a scenic backdrop for strolling around town with a furry friend. Tamiami Trail Park is another waypoint you’ll want to visit in the area — it has a nice walking trail lined with benches and trees.

Ludlam
Ludlam is a charming neighborhood that rests to the southeast of Sweetwater. The neighborhood is home to a number of dog-friendly activities, making it one of the best places in the area to explore with your dog. Tropical Dog Park is a fun place to visit with a four-legged friend. It is a fenced, off-leash dog park that has separate areas for large and small dogs, drinking fountains, and even an obstacle course! After some pawesome playtime at the park, head to Sergio’s on 40th Street — a locally-favored Cuban restaurant with a variety of food, both traditional and exotic. Sergio’s has outdoor seating that can accommodate furry paws.

Crafts
Crafts is a neighborhood in Coral Gables, and it is a short trip from Sweetwater — less than ten miles. It is an inviting community that is great to visit with your dog, especially if you’re hungry! There are many highly-rated restaurants in the neighborhood that offer outdoor seating so you can eat with your dog. For the adventurous, there’s Rincon Argentino. This small restaurant packs some big flavor into their traditional Argentinian cuisine. For something a bit more conservative, but also delicious, try Spris: they make one of the best pizza pies in town! And for a taste of the Caribbean head to Ortanique on the Mile.

North Kendall
North Kendall is less than seven miles from Sweetwater to the southwest, and it is a neighborhood you won’t want to miss if you’re looking for things to do with your pooch! Bent Tree Park on 47th Street is a small community park with a shaded walking trail, a perfect location for a peaceful walk on a sunny day. There are also some dog-friendly restaurants with outside seating in North Kendall, like Little Louie’s Italian Kitchen. They serve traditional Italian cuisine like pasta and pizza. For something a bit spicier, try El Taquito on 42nd Street: they have some of the best Mexican food in the area.
