Downtown Coral Gables is home to many of the city’s pet friendly restaurants. Make a date with your canine friend and head over for some world class dining. BrickTop serves up New American cuisine and has patio seating so your pup can hang out while you bite down on a delicious Lobster Roll. Nearby, Mesa Mar is a hot spot featuring fresh, local fish, and offers dog friendly outdoor seating. Your furry pal can enjoy the ambience while you devour an Asian or Latin inspired dish. For an afternoon refreshment, stop by Small Tea, order a brewed beverage, and relax at one of the outdoor tables.
Another term for luxury is Biltmore Hotel Coral Gables. Located in the De Soto neighborhood, this historic hotel has been visited by celebrities and even presidents. Rooms are adorned with European feather bedding, oversized windows, and plush towels. For a fee, well behaved dogs under 35 pounds can sleep in one of the extravagant rooms. Your four legged pal can drift away to dreamland in style. When you get hungry, leash up your pooch and head over to 19th Hole. Although this restaurant is owned by the hotel, it is open to the public. The open patio seating allows furry guests.
If your pooch wants to get out in nature, head over to Hammock Oaks and check out the Matheson Hammock Nature Trail. One of Coral Gables’ hidden gems, this park provides relief from the surrounding city noise and gives you and your pup a chance to relax in the great outdoors. Follow the short gravel path through the hammocks and palm trees and you’ll come to a grassy meadow where you can either veer off onto the nature trail or continue on the gravel path to a small pond. The nature trail stretches 1.4 miles through lush vegetation. Chances are you’ll see other dog walkers, so your pup will have the chance to socialize and meet new friends.
The Ingraham Highway and Almansa Street neighborhood has a couple pupperific parks just waiting for your four legged friend. Clip on your pup’s leash and head over to William H. Kerdyk Jr. and Family Park. Take some laps around the walking path and let your pooch stretch out her four legs. The gardens and trees in this park make it a beautiful spot for exercise. If your pal needs to rest her paws, find a bench and just take in the view. For a change of scenery, head over to the nearby Jaycee Park and stroll around the paved walking path.
When dogs living in Coral Gables need a place to let off some energy, they head over to Chapman Dog Park. Located in the Gables by the Sea neighborhood, this dog park gives dogs nine acres to run free. Let your pooch ditch the leash and romp around with his new four legged friends. With this much space, your dog can enjoy a serious game of fetch. Petite pups have a separate area from the large dogs, and each section has a large tree that provides shade and relief from the heat. There are also benches for the pet parents. Sounds like a woofin’ good time!
