Huckleberry
North of Oldtown, you and your pup will find outdoor fun at the Priest Lake State Park, nestled in the Selkirk Mountains, in the Huckleberry neighborhood, in the town of Coolin. The park lies just south of the Canadian border, along a 19-mile stretch of Priest Lake. Pets are welcome on-leash throughout, and there are designated picnic areas, and camping for those wanting a longer stay. Visitors frequent the woods in search of huckleberries and enjoy miles of hiking trails that wind their way through the forest. A small entrance fee is charged. Pack in plenty of water to share.

Laclede
The town of Laclede, just east of Oldtown, offers the Riley Creek Recreation Area to enjoy its outdoor, scenic beauty. This is a pup-friendly, on-leash area that offers visitors spectacular views of the Pend Oreille River. It is one of the less-visited recreation areas in the state, which allows you and your pup to enjoy peace and tranquility. Many people come here to swim, and dogs are allowed in the water, but not near the public beaches. Fishing is, of course, top notch so be sure to bring your pole. There are a multitude of trails throughout, shared with bicyclists.

Spirit Lake
In the city of Spirit Lake, south of Oldtown, the dog-friendly Volunteer Park offers you and your pawtastic pup a place to relax and unwind, with plenty of open space to roam or spread a blanket for a nice picnic. For a bit more exercise, take your fur-ever friend along the Empire Trails. This extensive trail system winds its way past lakes and through the woods, for a scenic hike. It connects to the West Lake and East Lake Trail system, shared with bicyclers. These trails are well-marked with color-coded signs designating levels suited for beginner, intermediate and expect fitness levels.

Newport
For some pawtastic pup outdoor adventures, check out the Marshall Lake Resort in the city of Newport, Washington, west of Oldtown. Marshall Lake covers 194 acres and is stocked annually with trout. It is the perfect place to take your pup, throw in your line, and relax the day away. If you are a water lover, you can also put your boat in here and take Fido for a cruise. There are out-of-the-way places on the lake where your pup can cool himself on a hot, summer day. Camping facilities are on-site as well, spend spend a night under the stars with your furry pal.

North Priest River
The north Priest River neighborhood of Priest River, east of Oldtown, dog-friendly activities abound. Head to the Priest River Wildlife Area for pup-friendly outdoor activities. There are miles of trails for hiking throughout this area where bald eagles frequent, as well as ospreys and bears. You are welcome to have Fido off leash here. Within this wildlife area, you will find the Priest River Recreation Area which offers overnighters a place to camp. Pups are welcome on leash in this facility. It is the perfect place to pack a picnic lunch. Be sure to bring plenty of water to share.
