Basehor
A popular destination for Fido and parents is the Basehor City Park on Leavenworth Road. You can spend some time walking laps with your pooch around the paved walking path and the kids will love the playground. After getting some exercise, stop by the Gazebo and rest with a bottle of water for you and your pup. You can also dispose of doggie waste bags at the receptacles near the restrooms and if you are spending the day at the park, pack a picnic lunch and relax at one of the picnic shelters with friends and their furry companions.

Legends Outlet
If you and Fido are looking for some fun and retail therapy, head over to the Legends Outlet Mall on Village West Parkway. The stores are pooch-friendly as long as you keep your pup on a leash and under your control at all times. Another pup-friendly store is Cabela’s where your leashed pup is welcome to explore all the fun outdoor equipment. After spending some money, stop by the Wyandotte County Park and let your pups stretch their legs. There are open lawns and a playground perfect for the kids. The parking is convenient, and you can walk with your pup along the trails and admire the flowers and a variety of plants and trees. Dinner with Fido is also tasty when you stop by Chiusanos Pizza. Order a brick oven pizza and relax at one of the eight pup-friendly outdoor tables.

Wyandotte Lake/Piper
Sometimes Fido needs to be able to run around off leash and get rid of some excess energy. On a nice day, head over to Wyandotte Lake where you will find an open grassy space where your pup can run and play. There is a designated off-leash area, but it is not fenced, so make sure your pups are good listeners before letting them run. There are also walking paths where you and Fido can explore nature, but you will want to keep your pup on a leash when out of the designated area. The park is popular for fishing and biking, so you might meet up with some other pup parents and let the dogs socialize. Just be sure to bring your own doggie waste bags.

The modern playground is a great place to let the kids run off some energy, and you and Fido can walk some laps around the trail. There are also picnic pavilions available where you can enjoy a snack, and you can dispose of doggie waste bags in the convenient receptacles. After spending time at the park, stop by Papa Bob’s Bar-B-Que for a tasty dinner. The retro-style diner offers six pooch-friendly tables where you can enjoy a meal with the whole family.

Millwood Business Park
The Swanson’s Streamway Dog Park is just 13 miles south of Basehor, and is a wonderful off-leash park where your pups can have some fun. There is a very small membership fee, but it is worth it to give Fido a chance to socialize with other pups and run around and play. You can walk around the park, or let your pooch sniff and roll around in the grass. There are shade trees and benches for pup parents, and doggie bags and waste receptacles are in the fenced area. On warm summer days, there are a variety of furry companions in the park, and Fido will have a puptastic time running off some energy.
