Situated in the center of town, Magnatech Park is a scenic area where you can stroll with your pup on a sunny day. The park offers a nice walking path where you can get some exercise. The peaceful atmosphere is perfect when you need to relax at the end of the day with your pup. Next to Magnatech, you will also find the Reusch VFW Memorial Park. There are 15 acres of land with a quiet wooded area featuring picnic tables and flower gardens. The exercise trail goes throughout the park and connects with Cheiftan Park to the north.

Leavenworth State Lake

Leavenworth State Lake

One of the best features of Tonganoxie is the pup-friendly Leavenworth State Fishing Lake about five minutes west of the center of town. It is the perfect place to spend the day with your pooch hiking through the woods or strolling around the lake. If you want to try fishing, throw in a line and your pup can sniff around at all the local plants and grass. Overnight camping is also allowed, and there are two large picnic shelters where you can hang out with friends and their furry companions. So, bring your boat and head out on the lake, or relax on the banks and enjoy quality time with Fido.

Lawrence to Lecompton

Lawrence to Lecompton

Just 12 miles south-west of Tonganoxie, Riverfront Park is in the town of  Lawrence and allows your pup to run around off leash. Although the dog area is not fenced, your pooch is welcome to chase a ball or frisbee or just socialize with friends out getting some exercise. There are also trails along the riverfront, but you will need to keep Fido on a leash when out of the special dog zone. Just across the road from the park, you can spend time with the family at the KOA campground. There are tent, RV and cabin sites, and the friendly staff will help make your stay enjoyable. Just be sure to keep your pooch on a leash while walking through the campground, and bring some doggie waste bags.

North Lawrence

North Lawrence

Lyons Park is situated in the neighborhood of North Lawrence and covers about 10 acres of land. Residents and visitors to Lawrence can spend time with their pup walking along the paths and enjoying the well-maintained landscape. You and Fido can watch the kids on the playground or relax on a blanket in the field under a shade tree. After hanging out at the park, stop by Gaslight Tavern for some casual cuisine and craft beer on the shaded dog-friendly patio. You may also want to check Johnny’s Tavern where the pooch-friendly sports bar welcomes pups at the outdoor tables. 

Old West Lawrence

Old West Lawrence

The Old West Lawrence neighborhood features the well-known and Fido and family-friendly Buford M. Watson Jr. Park. There are wide open fields where your pooch can run and play and the picnic areas are perfect for a snack. The park is sometimes referred to as the “train park” where you can get up close to a 1902 locomotive on display. Your pooch and the kids will enjoy spending time at the park getting some exercise and fresh air. There are several pup-friendly restaurants near the park if you get hungry. Check out Quinton’s Bar & Deli, the Burger Stand or Ladybird Diner all located on Massachusetts street. Each of the restaurants offers outdoor seating where you can enjoy a meal with your pup.
