Gonzales
Gonzales has pretty strict leash laws, and the Gonzales Dog Park is the only public area your hound can get its workout on being on a leash. The park, which opened in 2016, is one acre of doggy heaven. It features an area for smaller dogs under 30 pounds and another area for larger dogs. You pup isn’t the only one who can get some exercise. A paved walking track that circles around the dog park allows you to get sweaty while your pup runs around in the fenced area. The park also comes equipped with water fountains for both you and your thirsty pup. The park is open from dawn to dusk, is free and requires no registration.

Denham Springs
If you and your furry companion are up for a short trip, head 20 miles to the neighboring town of Denham Springs! South Park is a 60-acre park that features a host of activities for humans and doggos alike. Some of the facilities include: an off-leash dog park, a playground, basketball courts and large and small pavilions. The dog park is split into an area for smaller dogs and another one for larger dogs. It’s a safe, fenced-in option with lots of shade and a few benches. The park is conveniently located right off of the interstate, so it’s a great option if you’re traveling. It’s open from 7 a.m. to dusk. And it’s near a Bass Pro Shop, an outdoor-centered retailer that is also pup-friendly.
