Rutherford is one of the many small boroughs in Bergen County, New Jersey overlooking Manhattan. Proud of its historical heritage, Rutherford is home to some historical places from the 19th century. Pooches will like traveling around the borough, exploring the adjoining areas of Lyndhurst or Clifton, both of which are home to furrific dog parks. Although it's lacking in outdoor activities, Rutherford makes up for it with plenty of dog-friendly eateries. There's also an animal hospital here to keep your pup in tip-top shape.

Lyndhurst Dog Park is the closest and the coolest spot for pooches to play off-leash near Rutherford. Located within the Riverside County Park area, the dog spot has a fenced terrain split in two for small and large pups, as well as a double-gated entrance. This is a great spot to spend a day or a weekend! Be sure to grab a sweet treats from one of the food trucks that frequent the park.

But if you want to dine out with your dog, stay in Rutherford. Matera’s On Park is a casual eatery with pet-friendly tables and a variety of mouthwatering American eats. And for some more exotic fare, stop by by Mambo Tea House with Cuban cuisine and an Asian tea lounge.
