Dog Walking in Swedesboro

Swedesboro is a borough in Gloucester County, New Jersey that got its name from the early Swedish settlers. The English colonies were in need of a road between Burlingtown and Salem, so they built the Kings Highway. After that, the area started to become more attractive to settlers, mostly because of the fertile soil. Before it was named in honor of its original inhabitants, this area was called Raccoon.

If you're just visiting Swedesboro, you and Fido can stay at the Holiday Inn Philadelphia South Swedesboro. The best part is, this hotel doesn't charge an extra fee for your canine companion! Please note that dogs may be left unattended in their rooms for a short period of time as long as they are in a crate.

There are three animal hospitals and veterinary centers in Swedesboro that will take great care of your pup. One of the hospitals provides 24-hour care, so if there are any emergencies, your pet will be in safe hands.

Swedesboro also has several dog-friendly restaurants where you can enjoy a doggie dinner date! Check out Rode's Fireside Restaurant & Tavern for some classic pub fare. Vesuvio Ristorante boasts that they serve "the best food in Swedesboro" -- we'll let you and Sparky be the judge of that! Tavro Thirteen is also dog-friendly. Be sure to bring a leash and water bowl to all establishments. Bone Appetit!

If you're visiting Swedesboro with your four-legged companion, the closest -- and one of the best -- off-leash areas nearby is the Dream Park Gloucester County Dog Park. This park is around 5 miles from Swedesboro, in Logan Township. The park is 2.5 acres and has separate zones for small and large doggies. A doggie water fountain and four dog waste stations are provided, so all you need to bring is lots of energy to play! For the comfort of the human visitors, there are two gazebos and eight benches that are perfect for a nice, relaxed day at the park looking over your fur baby.

For some summer swimming and splashing, take your dog to the Timber Creek Park. The park is located around 18 miles away from Swedesboro, in Chews. The whole park is 60 acres, and doggies are allowed on the trails on-leash. There is plenty of exploring to do here! If you want a safer option where your pup can run off-leash, there is a 9-acre off-leash area where you can let your dog run freely. The lake is not fenced in, though, so be careful if you have a runner! Bring some drinking water and some waste baggies and get ready for a woof-derful day!

Just a little bit further away, at around 26 miles' distance, is another pawesome park that Fido is sure to love! Schuylkill River Dog Park, as its name suggests, is located along the Schuylkill River and has separate areas for small and large dogs. The park offers a water fountain and a hose so you can clean up your pup before leaving. There are plenty of trees that provide shade as well as benches where doggie parents can rest and relax while they supervise their pups. The park is pretty large and well-maintained, and most of the time, biodegradable poop bags are available. (It's a good idea to bring your own, though, just in case.)

There are separately fenced areas for small and large pups, and you can explore the rest of the park with your pooch on-leash. Other amenities in the main park include basketball courts, BBQ grills, playgrounds for children, and more! This park is the pawfect place for the whole family -- there's something fun for everybody here, especially the furry family members!

Mario Lanza Dog Park is an off-leash, fenced park with many different amenities that make it a suitable place for a day well spent in the company of your fur baby. The park is located in Queen Village, around 23 miles away from Swedesboro. The park offers fresh drinking water at the water fountains and plenty of benches for the human visitors. A great feature of this park is its night lighting, so you can take your dog for a walk even when it’s dark outside! The ground here is dirt, which Fido will love -- just remember to bring some towels to clean up if you're visiting on a rainy day.
