This town in Herkimer County, New York is an amazing place to call home, whether you are moving there with your family or just stopping through for a rest. Fairfield is a rural town with plenty of room to run and grow with your pooch over the years. Fort Herkimer is just twenty minutes to the south along the highway of Fairfield, making this little town the pawfect place for employees looking for an easy commute. After all, a shorter commute means more time walking with your favorite canine companion! And your dog will never complain about more time to spend with you after work!

A leash is required in Herkimer County, and city ordinances in Fairfield encourage compliance, even if your dog has the best listening skills. There are no animal hospitals in Fairfield, but there are three of them within a 30-minute drive south of town as you make your way toward Mohawk or Frankfort. The staff at any of these facilities are compassionate and skilled in making sure you and your dog feel like family.

Your dog won't mind the walking one bit, so be sure you have your leash and waste bags ready by the door each morning as you grab your coffee. The Black River Forest and Park is an hour north of Fairfield, but well worth the drive if you are looking for some of the best hiking and walking trails in the area with your dog.

Fifteen minutes south of Fairfield is the town of Little Falls. There are several small parks and green spaces in Little Falls that are simply pawfect for a day out with your amazing pup. Moss Island isn't really an island, but your dog will still be splashing up a storm if you visit this pond-filled oasis together! Moreland Park is another great spot for you to take your pup for an impromptu long walk or a game of fetch with his favorite tennis balls. You will need your waste bags and plenty of energy for this park-alicious town, so grab your leash and head on out!

You will find this town is the pawfect place for nature lovers to hang their hats, with two major park areas just to the north. The Lassellsville State Forest is the first park you will come to, with plenty of outdoor adventures waiting for you on their outdoor trails. Adirondack State Park offers plenty of hiking for a variety of skill levels, either self-guided or with a tour guide. Always hike or camp with friends, and be sure to clean up after your dog at each stop. Don't forget those waste bags!

About 20 minutes south of Fairfield in the nearby town of Frankfort, Steuben Hill is home to the pupperific Steuben Hill State Forest. This trail-filled natural oasis is a great place to visit with your dog on a weekend morning. You will want to grab some hiking buddies and plenty of snacks and waste bags for the trip. You will also want some clean and dry towels waiting for you in the car for after your hike, as your dog is sure to want to check out the amazing sparkling streams that flow all through this wondrous park.
