Presidio
The northern San Francisco area known as Presidio is just ten miles north of Colma. Presidio is also where you'll find Baker Beach, a great spot that's just a mile south of the Golden Gate Bridge. Not only will you get fabulous views of famous San Francisco landmarks from Baker Beach, but it's also an excellent spot for your dog to get some off-leash exercise! There are specific areas of Baker Beach where your dog is allowed to be off-leash, but be advised that the off-leash areas aren't fully fenced. If you'd like to go on a little adventure with your dog, there are also trails surrounding Baker Beach the two of you can explore together.36

Lakeshore
Fort Funston Doggie Beach is just a ten-minute drive from Colma, and it's located in the southwestern San Francisco area of Lakeshore. Fort Funston Doggie Beach is a true paradise for dogs and their humans. There are a whole bunch of off-leash trails surrounding Fort Funston, and each one leads back to the doggie beach! This dog beach tends to be quite busy, but there's lots of space, so it never feels too crowded even though your dog will have so many friends to play with. Make sure you dress for cool weather when you visit, and be sure to bring your own drinking water for you and Sparky.24

Bernal Heights
One of the biggest dog parks in San Francisco is just a 15-minute drive from Colma in the southeastern community of Bernal Heights. True to most areas of San Francisco, Bernal Hill Dog Park has steep hills you and your dog can climb throughout the park, ensuring you both get a good workout. The benefit of a dog park being at the top of a hill means you're rewarded with incredible views of the city! Bernal Hill Dog Park allows dogs of all sizes and breeds to play together in one space. There are two separate entrances to the park, and each section has waste disposal stations.12

Bayview
The southeastern quadrant of San Francisco is home to another dog park, and this one is in the Bayview area. John McLaren Park is a 327-acre park, making it the city's second largest park, and it's only a 13-minute drive from Colma. McLaren Park has sports fields, playgrounds, an amphitheater, a golf course, and seven miles of walking trails. To top it all off, McLaren Park also has two dog parks that total nearly 10 acres! Dogs of all sizes can play together in these spaces, and your dogs are welcome to join you on the trails as well as other areas of the park when they're on a leash.
