Sand, surf, sun… what more could you want? Beautiful Oxnard, California, is home to all of the above, and more, making it a perfect place to spend the day with Fido.
Oxnard's Off-Leash Dog Park is the place to be for pooches looking to socialize! With a multi-item agility course, grass and dirt grounds, a separate section for small dogs, and a coin-operated dog bath area (for those especially muddy days!), there's tons of fun to be had at this free park.
Does your dog love nothing more than playing in the sand and surf? Oxnard has several dog-friendly beaches during certain times of the day (between 5 pm and 8 am, as long as they are on-leash). Hollywood Beach is a local favorite, situated on the western edge of the Channel Islands Harbor. For over a hundred years, this beach has borrowed the famous Hollywood name, and several movies have even been filmed on the shores!
Silverstrand Beach is close to the US Naval Construction Battalion Center, with stunning views of the area. There's also Oxnard Shores Beach, which is north of 5th Street. But be warned - dogs are not allowed on the northern part of the beach since it is a protected area (specifically done by the city and government) due to the rare birds that live there. On-leash dogs are welcome to travel southward (toward the residential areas) on the shore.
Looking for a wide, safe place for your pet to run wild? Look no further than the Springville Dog Park, just under a 15 minute drive from Oxnard. This grassy, off-leash park gives your pup the chance to meet new friends, take a roll in the grass, and explore to their heart’s content in a secure environment. Take a seat at the bench and watch your dog play in the open space. And if you’re worried about your little dog, fear not – there’s also a separate area for petite pups, where they can play safe and sound. Springville Dog Park is simply a fetching spot for every dog!
Mission Oaks Park, just under 25 minutes away, is a huge place, with many activities for wanderlust pups. With 20 acres of land, the park features picnic tables, restrooms, and peaceful walkways between the trees. Located in the heart of Mission Verde neighoburhood, this park is the epicentre of fun and relaxation. Leashed dogs are welcome to walk across the open grass, or join you and your family for a picnic in the sun. Mission Oaks Park is a park for a community – friendly, fun, and pawsitively perfect!
