Hello, My name is Evelyn! I am a Southern California native. I have a 4 year old American Staffordshire Terrier and a 3 year old South African Boerboel. I raised them since they were a few months old and my love for them is immeasurable. Your dog will be under great care as I will treat him/her as if they were my own. Your pet will get to explore the open air, be active, and most of all be happy! I will make sure your Wag! experience is positive and memorable!
Port Hueneme is a gorgeous and cozy beachside city in Ventura County, California. As the name suggests, there is plenty of water-based fun to be had on your stay here. As is characteristic of most beach villages in California, dogs on adventures with their owners is a common and welcome sight. Take the opportunity to work with your dog on his social skills while enjoying the sun and surf in this amazing town. The name is derived from words that mean “Resting Place,” a fitting homage to the purpose of this town. Come for the beach, stay for the winter!
Your dog will enjoy almost everything about this town. Nestled on the Santa Barbara Channel, Port Hueneme offers locals and visitors plenty of access to the marinas and beaches. The port itself is usually full of ships and busy traffic, so your dog will probably prefer that you stick to the beaches to either side. You will also find small green spaces if you are not a fan of the sand but still love the sun. There is a local animal hospital that serves all of the pet owners in this village with a friendly face and professional compassion. Enjoy your rest and relaxation here!
Hueneme Bay is a neighborhood to the north of the town where you will enjoy plenty of open green spaces. This area is great for travelers who may need a less crowded place to stay and spend the day with their dogs for any reason. Anxious dogs will appreciate the peace and quiet found in Bolker Park. This green space is small but well-tended and is the perfect place for a relaxing walk with your dog. Leashes and waste bags are a must, of course, and don’t forget to bring plenty of treats to reward your pup after a long day.
Bartolo Square South is a neighborhood just five minutes east of Hueneme Bay. Your dog will love the amazing parks found here as you have your pick of either the Rudolph Beck Memorial Park with its scenic walking paths, or Durley Park with its open fields, perfect for playing fetch or Frisbee. Take your time and enjoy this neighborhood away from the busy beaches if you are looking for a low-key scene to enjoy with your dog. If you get hungry, the local Denny’s and Papa John’s restaurants often accommodate visitors with dogs in their lovely outdoor seating areas.
Mandalay Bay is just north of Port Hueneme, within walking distance for many visitors. The water-side layout of this neighborhood is a sight for sore eyes, and you will want to make sure your dog understands the rules when walking so close to the water. Whatever your preference and comfort level is, a leash is asmust in most parts of this busy neighborhood. Make sure you have plenty of waste bags as well, as there aren’t many green spaces for your dog to escape to for his business. The locals are very understanding and welcoming, and will be glad to help you get the most out of your stay.
As its name would suggest, Hollywood Beach is a charming residential area that overlooks its namesake beach. Your dog will be wagging his tail in delight and excitement when he feels the sand beneath his toes as you take him down to the water for an enchanting adventure. Swimming and wading with dogs is a common sight here, as this beach on the west side of the bay is a popular local spot. The Holloywood Beach Deli has plenty of outdoor seating where you can get one of the best sandwiches in town to enjoy and rejuvenate after your day in the sunshine.
Harbor Lights is found in the center of Port Hueneme and is a great place to stop and get a bite to eat if you are looking for friendly chain restaurants with service that welcomes dogs in their many outdoor patios. There is a McDonald’s, Mandarin House, Taco Bell, and even a Starbucks with outdoor space for you and your pup. No matter what you are hungry for, you will find something to make you smile and calm your cravings in Harbor Lights. Just bring your clean up bags and water bowls to help keep the patios clean for the other guests.
