Salina is one of the world’s biggest wheat producing cities, but believe it or not, the top employer in town is Tony’s Pizza. The city was originally claimed by France as part of Louisiana in the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. There are an estimated 10,747 (or more!) dogs living in Salina so bring your pup when you visit. You will find many places that you and Fido can enjoy together.
The Salina Animal Shelter Dog Park on 2nd Street is amazing and has so much agility and play equipment your pup will think he is practicing for “Best In Show.” There are slides, ramps, seesaws, and even a giant hoop to jump through! The humans can enjoy the fun too or just relax and watch from a bench or picnic table.
Jerry Ivey Park also has an agility course for the furbabies, picnic tables, trails, basketball, tennis, sand volleyball, and a playground for the human kids. It is even lighted so you can play at night. The lake and stream add a nice touch and brings ducks and other wildlife to the park for the pups to chase.
If you want to take Fido to see Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge, head for Indian Rock Park on Indian Rock Avenue. This is the site of a historic Indian battle many years ago, and it has trails, a pond, prairies, and a giant rock with steps to get to the top where you can see the Bay.
