The city of Derby, Kansas has been busy. Since the 1880s, it has been constantly growing and changing. Although it has had a police station since 1955, it wasn't until 2004 that Derby got its first fire station, so you could say Derby has grown at its own pace.

Derby's close-knit, family-friendly attitude has always been a central part of the city's charm. Derby residents have long considered pets -- dogs especially! -- as part of the family. Before Derby dogs became dedicated couch pup-tatos, they helped herd cattle and kept pests off the farms, which might explain why there are three veterinary clinics in this suburb of Wichita.

It's no surprise that Derby is home to some beautiful recreational spaces where you and Fido can stretch your legs. Crane Park is a barktastic park where you and your dog can roam the hills for hours. The walking trail makes for a great workout. Bring lots of water! The playground is mostly shaded, which is really nice if you have small kids. Dogs have to be on a leash, but they are welcome to join their mini humans at the park.

Amber Ridge park is the best place to go if you just want some open space to run. Of course, you have to keep your dog on a leash, but there is so much green space here that it's the perfect getaway spot. Be sure that you bring plenty of water with you.

Derby is a furrific city with plenty for you and Fido to see and do!

High Park has trails, green fields, and so much more for you and your family to explore. The amphitheater even hosts pet-friendly productions! There's always something going on here, so you and Fido will have a hard time getting bored. You will need to bring your own water. Or, you can use the running water in the bathrooms -- just be sure to bring a dish. There are plenty of trash cans throughout the park, but no waste baggies, so bring your own. Fancy a little fishing? Bring your rod and reel and cast a few lines in the catch-and-release pond. Swimming in the pond, for both dogs and humans, is prohibited.
