Leelanau State Park
If you’re searching for a fun place to hike with your dog, head to the northernmost end of Northport and check out Leelanau State Park. This 1,300-acre park welcomes dogs on-leash, and it has 8.5 miles of hiking trails to explore with your dog. These trails wind through the forest and pass beautiful Mudd Lake. You’ll also get stunning views of Cat Head Bay. If all this walking makes you hungry, a scenic picnic pavilion is available. Bring doggy bags and water for your pup, and have a good time hiking at this picturesque park.

Bay Street
This Northport neighborhood is home to numerous locally-owned businesses and local restaurants. It also has a furrific park where you can take your dog for on-leash walks: Haserot Park. This park is right on Northport Bay, and it has a small beach where you can take your pup for scenic strolls. Be sure to bring doggy bags with you to this park. If you want to go for lunch or dinner with your dog after the park, head to Tucker’s of Northport. Sit at one of their dog-friendly outdoor tables, and dine on wraps, burgers, sandwiches, locally-caught seafood, and much more.

Good Harbor Bay
If you want to spend the day at the beach with your dog, Good Harbor Bay Beach is perfect for you. This pawesome Lake Michigan beach welcomes dogs on-leash, and it’s about 18.5 miles from Northport. To reach the beach, you’ll have to go on the 2.8-mile Good Harbor Bay Trail. The beach is located near the start of the trail. After you’re finished at the beach, you can hop back on the Good Harbor Bay Trail if you’d like and complete it. The beautiful, mostly flat trail takes you through wetlands and a pine-oak forest. Bring water and doggy bags, and have a great day out at the beach with your pup!

Glen Lake
Located 33 miles from Northport, Glen Lake is home to another beautiful beach that welcomes dogs on-leash. This beach is located next to the Maritime Museum in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. While you’re here, you and your pup can go for walks on the shoreline, or you can swim together in the bright blue water of Lake Michigan. If all that swimming and playing makes you hungry, head to Cherry Republic. This restaurant welcomes dogs on their patio, and they have a cute "dog bar" that has a bowl of ice-cold water. For humans, they offer delicious cherry pies, sandwiches, salads, burgers, and more.
Downtown Traverse City
Downtown Traverse City is a mostly commercial area that offers lots of fun options for dogs. The neighborhood is home to a great off-leash dog area, Traverse City Dog Park. This dog park is 28 miles from Northport, and it has separate areas for large and small dogs to play in. If your pup gets thirsty while they’re playing with their new friends, water is available. If you want to get your dog a special treat after the park, head over to DOG Bakery. This locally-owned pet shop offers over 20 flavors of dog treats, and they also have lots of dog toys. Your pup will always have fun shopping here!
