It's popular with the local pups, so you two are sure to sniff out some new furry friends. This fenced park features separate areas for large and small breeds. Poop baggies and drinking water are both provided, so all you need to do is bring plenty of energy to play!  Prefer to take a short walk with your pal? The trails in the main park welcome leashed dogs.

Honor Highway

Ever wish you could take your dog to the movies with you? You can in Honor! You'd be barking mad not to check out Cherry Bowl Drive-In Theatre, which is extremely dog-friendly and family-friendly. You can choose between two movies and plenty of food to share with Fido -- no need to sneak in snacks! You'll also find a small playground for the children, mini golf, and a very friendly atmosphere. The movies are usually kid-friendly. You can sit in your car, on top of your car, or even bring your own chairs to put out. What better way to spend a Saturday with your best furry friend?

The Village at Grand Traverse Commons

If you and Fido need some retail therapy, you should definitely add The Village at Grand Traverse Commons to your must-visit list! In the 19th century, the original building served as a hospital. Today, it's a unique dog-friendly shopping center and residential community located ruffly 27 miles away from Thompsonville. Many of the shops in the Mercato welcome leashed pets, and if Fido is on his best behavior, he just might get some treats and belly rubs from the shopkeepers! The best part? This all-in-one area even has walking trails that welcome leashed dogs! Don't forget to have a good sniff around the "hippie tree" before you leave!

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is located around 30 miles north of Thompsonville and welcomes you and your pup to enjoy some quality time in the great outdoors. This area is the habitat of approximately 75 pairs of piping plover, an adorable (but endangered!) bird species. Keep Fido on a leash while you're exploring this area -- you wouldn't want him disturbing the birds or their nests! There are certain areas where dogs are not permitted, so be sure to pay attention to signage. Bring plenty of water and waste baggies for your excursions here. Sleeping Bear Dunes, MI was recently crowned the Most Beautiful Place in America by Good Morning America, so do your part to help keep it that way!

If you just want a simple, fenced dog park where your dog can safely play with other pups, you should head to Traverse City Dog Park. Like most dog parks, this one features separately fenced areas for large and small breeds to play safely. Waste bags, trash cans, benches, and doggie water fountains are all available here for your convenience. Please note that dogs are not allowed to dig in this park, and dog treats or other dog foods are also prohibited. The dog park is maintained by the city, but charitable pet owners who feel so inclined can donate to the park's upkeep.
