Frankfort, Michigan is literally one mile long from city line to city line. It is named Frankfort because the German settlers felt it was just as beautiful as Frankfort, Germany. Its natural treasures make it a popular tourist destination and a furrific place to be a dog owner!

The Betsie River flows right into Lake Michigan, which made it perfect for ferrying supplies to where they needed to be. The river also draws tourists from all over because it's a quiet, beautiful place where you'll feel miles away from all your troubles.

Elberta Historic Waterfront Park has ten acres of room to play. There are trails that you and your dog can walk, a playground, and several covered picnic tables. There is plenty to do here that will entertain the whole family, and the best part is that it is all right on the water.

Cru Cellars is a local favorite spot to sip on wine and dine on fresh dishes. This spot has three outdoor tables that are pet-friendly. Since it is on Main Street, you can take in the city views while relaxing with your pet. The atmosphere of the whole city is relaxed and friendly, and you and Fido will love exploring everything it has to offer!

    #2 Betsie River Valley

Betsie River Valley Campground hasn't changed much in a couple of decades, besides being updated, of course. Here, you can go camping your way, whether you want to pitch a tent or park your RV. You can choose from many hiking trails that vary in difficulty and terrain. You can bring your dog with you to explore or even to fly fish. The campground requires that you always keep your dog on a leash and never leave them at your campsite unless you are in an RV. You have to clean up after them as well, so don't forget the doggie waste bags.

When you need to satisfy your sweet tooth, Kilwins is just the place! You simply have to come try the handmade ice cream and chocolates. (None for Fido, though.) This sweet shop will let you bring your dog with you to treat yourself, but they are not allowed inside. You will want to bring a water dish for her as well as a leash. The outdoor tables are the perfect place to come and take in the sights of the city and the water while you snack. Make sure you bring a leash and some doggie waste bags with you.

The restaurant serves dishes made with seasonal ingredients so it can always offer the freshest fare possible. They are very strict about their policies, and if your dog doesn't behave, then you will have to get your meal to-go. Please always keep your dog on a leash while you dine. Pets are not allowed to be left alone in the hotel rooms unless they are kennelled. You'll have to let the staff know you have a pet when you are making reservations because they have a limited number of pet rooms.
