Elk Rapids
Elk Rapids is a small town, but there is still plenty to do! The Elk Rapids Edward C. Grace Memorial Harbor has many activities for you and your family to enjoy, from spending time on the water to picnicking. There are also three separate dog runs for your pup to get out all of that pent-up energy, as well as playgrounds and beaches to entertain the little humans traveling with your pack. There is also an excellent fishing area where the whole family can spend a tranquil afternoon. If spending the day at the harbor is the plan, make sure you have plenty of water and waste bags!

Downtown Traverse City
Downtown Traverse City is about 30 minutes south of Elk Rapids. Traverse City is a pupular town with plenty of outdoor adventures to be enjoyed. Clinch Park is a pet friendly beach in the neighborhood. It is one of the most well-loved beaches in town, with more than 1,500 feet of sand to walk and play in. There are picnic areas and access to the local trail systems, as well as a local marina just a few minutes away. The local TART Trail system has several local walking trails that form a 46-mile loop throughout this neighborhood and the entire town. The trails take visitors to water, boardwalks, scenic forests, foot bridges, and wildlife areas.24
Silver Lake
The Silver Lake Recreation Area, also known as the Silver Lake Park, is right in the middle of the Silver Lake area, surrounding the actual lake. The park is more than 80 acres of outdoor fun complete with sports fields and trails. There is plenty of room for your whole family at this park, and you can reserve pavilions for those larger gatherings if you choose! The town built a dog park in the area back in 2014, and it has been a local favorite among pups and people ever since! Just make sure you keep a leash on your pet outside of the fenced areas.

Yuba
Yuba is ten minutes from Elk Rapids and is a lovely small village with plenty of character. The Yuba Creek Natural Area is a pupular attraction with gorgeous hiking trails and amazing views of the Yuba Valley. There are forests, wetlands, and the town's namesake creek. The area was built to protect natural water sources and wildlife that calls the area home. Deer, otter, and small mammals and birds thrive in this natural oasis. The full hike is almost three miles of some of the best scenery around. Just make sure you have a good harness for your dog and plenty of water!
Fisherman's Island State Park
Fisherman’s Island State Park is about forty minutes north of Elk Rapids. The park has several miles of gorgeous shoreline that has barely been disturbed. The park is not an island, but rather a peninsula thanks to low water levels. The area is covered in native flowers that make for the pawfect campsite. You can explore the beaches and sand dunes to your heart's content; just keep a harness and leash on your dog for comfort and safety in this 2,678-acre park.
