A quick, eight-mile drive will take you to Montclair. Your first stop here should be Brookdale Dog Park. The main community park features a walkway where you and your dog can get some exercise together. The highlight of this park, though, is its off-leash area. Its six-foot fences and double-gated entrance keep all the pups safe and sound. The water stations here are clean and have fresh water, and the cleaning stations are stocked with everything that you need. The trash cans are changed throughout the day as well. All you need to bring to have the pawfect day at the dog park is Fido's favorite toy!

While you are in Montclair, be sure to check out Just Jake's. They have a good-sized patio where you can bring your dog with you to enjoy a burger, quesadilla, or perhaps a chicken caprese salad. The staff is friendly and will even cut up a plain burger for your dog if you wish! The best thing to do is bring your own dog dish, but if you forget, you can always order a to-go box for Fido to eat out of. A leash is a must. You will also want to make sure that your dog can handle crowds, because Just Jake's is a local favorite for all pet parents. Bone Appetit!

Marshall Hill
West Milford Dog Park is about twenty miles from Haledon, in West Milford. The park has about an acre of fenced land where you can let your dog off his leash so he can sniff out some new buddies. There are several pieces of agility equipment for you and your dog to play or train on. The water is located in a separate corner to make sure that the area is always clean and fresh. The cleaning stations are well-stocked, too. There is no entrance fee, but donations are accepted. This is the perfect place to come and sit with other pet parents and watch your pup make new friends.

Morris Turnpike
If you take a 25-mile trip to Short Hills, you will find The Mall at Short Hills. It might have a lackluster name, but this pet-friendly shopping center lets you and your dog can shop 'til you drop! Individual stores set their own rules, but most will allow you to bring your dog in with you to shop. The only place that you cannot bring your dog is the food court. You can rent dog strollers at the guest services desk if your pup is feeling like a diva and doesn't want to walk! This Fido-friendly shopping mall even features water fountains for dogs. A leash is required, as is good behavior.

Ramapo Valley
Mahwah may sound like a made-up name, especially if you're not local to the area, but it's a town located about thirteen miles from Haledon. This is where you will find Ramapo Valley County Reservation. There are a lot of trails for you to explore here. The out-and-back trail takes you up a hill and back down to the lake, making it pawfect for walkies. Swimming is available here as well. Some parts of the area require a leash, but there are some leash-free areas. Bears have been seen off the trails, so it is highly recommended you stay on the trail! There is water by the swimming area as well as restrooms, but most of the trails do not have water, so keep some on hand while you're exploring.
