After the Civil War, the quiet farming town of Haledon, New Jersey became the streetcar city of the era. The tracks were laid throughout the lanes. The trolleys were set. People came from all over to see the connection. It was this monumental decision that brought growth to the area. Industries formed around the tracks. Newspapers latched on to the opportunity, listing maps, times, and all things concerning the trolleys. It became the hub of the city, the place to go to meet and greet. You could even ride to the park for a day of fun!
Today, Haledon is a small, close-knit community with a big heart! Your first destination in Haledon should be Hofstra Park. This is the place your dog will want to be. The park is full of beautiful nature trails for you and Fido to explore. One of the most majestic walking trails you will find is the quarry line, which provides a sweeping view of the former quarry. Before you head out, stop by one of the three vet offices in town and make sure that your pet is ready to go on your adventure.
If you head out of town about a mile, you will find Garret Mountain Reservation. This park has over 550 acres of various activities for you and your dog. From hiking up to the waterfall to exploring the countryside, you'll have a hard time getting bored here!
Whether you're exploring Haledon or venturing into other parts of Passaic County, dog-friendly fun is never very far away!
