Paterson, New Jersey is a place of urban living, with country adventure not far away for a person with a pup. There is one veterinary clinic in the city limits, but dozens in the neighboring municipalities, so you can rest easy knowing your pooch will be in good paws here!

Paterson has two major parks on its eastern and western boundaries which will give you and your furry friend some fresh air and exercise. Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park sits on the western boundary of Paterson. This newly listed National Park has a 77-foot waterfall as its key attraction. The national park is a favorite destination for families and many educational groups. If you plan to hike here, note that the park is at high elevation, and some of the trails are steep. Your canine companion may accompany you on no less than a six-foot-long leash on the seven miles of trail in the park. The park includes places sit and picnic as well.

The second park on the eastern boundary is a Passaic County Park, Garret Mountain Reservation. This park offers many opportunities for outdoor recreation with your pup. The trails here wind up some steep hills, so come prepared with some good hiking boots and some water for your pal. There are scenic overlooks, fishing, and a castle all for a fun and restful day.  Plenty of places under shade trees make it easy to share a meal with your favorite furry friend.
