Maywood is a borough of fewer than 10,000 people. For a small community, it has a lot to offer a family with a canine member. One veterinary clinic operates within the borough's boundaries. It takes care of most of the routine and emergency needs of a pup. Specialty care and a wide range of veterinary services operate in the adjoining larger communities.

The borough maintains six parks with green spaces, picnic sites, and recreational amenities. People must keep their pups on a leash when visiting these parks. Herbert W. Nickerson Memorial Park features playground equipment, open green spaces, and places to picnic with a leashed four-legged companion. Borg's Woods Nature Preserve is located in nearby Hackensack. This fourteen-acre nature preserve has a nature trail that takes a person and a leashed pup through natural brush and forest.

In town, two restaurants welcome a person dining with a furry friend. Maywood Inn's Twin Door Tavern on West Pleasant Avenue serves a variety of pub sandwiches and casual entrees. Four outdoor tables will seat you and your four-legged dining companion. A sweet dessert can be had at Uncle Louie G's Italian Ices & Ice Cream. This ice cream shop has several outdoor tables which let you and your pup sit and enjoy an Italian ice or another sweet treat.

Maywood, though small in size, has many things for a person with a pup to see and do together!
