Strolling through the peaceful Artesian Fields neighborhood allows you and your pooch to exercise and socialize. Spending time at the Artesian Fields County Park is another great activity on the weekend to get out and enjoy nature. The long-wooded corridor offers a scenic path through the urban sprawl of the city. You will need to bring your own doggie waste bags and some water bottles to make sure you have a cool drink at the end of an energetic walk. For some puptastic dining options, check out Midland Brew House located not far from the park. This trendy bar offers a casual atmosphere and Fido-friendly outdoor tables.

Family and pet-friendly, the Birchwood neighborhood features well-kept homes and small yards where Fido can play. When you and your pup are looking for even more exercise and excitement, head over to Borough Park. The park features a playground and spray area for the children, and puppy parents can walk Fido through the grassy spaces and let him sniff and smell to his heart’s content. You can also enjoy a picnic on the grass while your pooch soaks up the sunshine, but remember to bring your own doggie waste bags and clean up after your furtastic pal.

Canine lovers need to check out East Side Park when traveling through the Park Avenue neighborhood. This park sits on the top of a hill where you and your pooch can enjoy the sunset in the evening. A small gazebo is an excellent place to get some shade and enjoy a cool drink after walking or jogging around the park with your pup. You will need to provide your own doggie waste bags to help keep the park clean and beautiful. If you are in the mood for an old-school diner, head over to River View East Restaurant, where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner with your pup at one of the outdoor tables.

Rochelle Park
Saddle River Area Bike Path is an excellent destination for you and Fido in the Rochelle Park neighborhood. The trail stretches over 577 acres along the Saddle River, and features a multi-use path for pedestrians and bicycles. You can start your hike in the Rochelle Park area and walk or jog with your pooch for six miles to the nearby town of Ridgewood. Along the path you and your pooch can rest on one of the benches and admire the ponds, wildlife, and beautiful trees and plants. Bring your water bottles and doggie waste bags and spend the entire day hiking with your canine companion. If you and your pup want a treat after all that exercise, stop for a pup cup at Dairy Queen, or sit at one of the Fido-friendly outdoor tables and enjoy a meal at Zinburger Wine & Burger Bar.
Brookdale
When Fido needs the open area of an off-leash dog park, travel about 8 miles to Monclair and visit the Brookdale Dog Park in the Brookdale neighborhood. The park features 1.2 acres of space with different areas for large and small pups. Fido can show off his skills on the agility equipment, and you can sit on a bench and watch your pooch frolic with the other mutts. There is a dog wash area to clean up afterards, and a water fountain to fill water bottles and bowls. The park also provides doggie waste bags and a clean-up station to help keep the area nice. If you are just visiting in town with your pooch, Hyatt Place Fair Lawn welcomes your dog for an additional fee.
