1855 was a big year for Kansas -- it marked the establishment of a settlement called Andale. It was also the year that the railroad was built here. Andale was first settled by disabled veterans as part of the Homestead Act, which encouraged veterans to take up land and build their own homes. As a result, you will see that the area is covered in post-war era buildings which have a style all their own. This is a proud community full of honest, hard-working people -- and their pups, of course!

Despite having a population of less than 1,000, Andale is still considered a city, and is part of the Sherman Township. Andale is conveniently situated just a half-hour from Wichita, which means you can enjoy a quaint, small-town lifestyle while remaining close to all the amenities of the big city.

Andale is also a little more than half an hour away from Cheney Reservoir, a gorgeous state park where you and Fido can enjoy a number of outdoor activities, including fishing, bird watching, boating, camping, and so much more! Dogs on a leash no longer than 10 feet are welcome to explore most of the park with their owners, apart from the swimming areas. Service animals are not subject to the same restrictions.

Andale, Kansas is the pawfect place to hang your hat, or make a pit stop on your way to Wichita!

Wichita is about 25 miles from Andale, but it does have alot to offer you and your pup. Murfin Animal Care Campus is just the right place to let your dog off his leash and let him chase a ball for a while. There is plenty of open room to run and romp, as well as plenty of doggie waste bags at the cleaning stations. Water fountains are also open when the weather is warm, but closed in the winter months to prevent frozen pipes. The main complaint is that there just isn't enough shade, but other than that, this is a great place to spend a few hours! The park is free to use, but the park does accept donations, which contribute to the park's upkeep and benefits the Kansas Humane Society.

Chilsom Creek Pet Resort Pet Park is an upscale dog park where you can take advantage of many different opportunities. Located in Wichita, about half an hour from Andale, it's ideally situated for you to stop in and play while you are out and about. There's always a cleaning staff on duty to ensure this park is kept nice and tidy. Everyone is encouraged to interact with the dogs, and there is always someone to throw a ball or play to play tug-of-war -- which is just pawfect if you have multiple dogs who love being the center of attention! There is a fee to play here, but you can get a day pass with no fee if you are just visiting. This is not a doggie day care, and pet owners must stay with their pets at all times.

Chapin Dog Park is not like other dog parks. Yes, there are two pens where you can let your dog off their leash to play. However, there are also trails where you can walk your dog on-leash for a while. There are trash cans along the trails so that you can dispose of your doggie waste bags along the way. Water fountains are located within the fences. The park doesn't forbid toys, but there's a reminder posted that you must be willing to share. Please do not bring any treats or food with you. Locals note that the park can get messy in bad weather, so plan accordingly if visiting in winter. Visitors have also spotted unique wildlife here, including bald eagles, so keep your eyes peeled as you play!

Pawnee Prairie Park is another great park in Wichita. This is a leash-only park, but there are over 600 acres that you can explore with your dog. There's also a five-mile loop trail which is very pawpular with local dog owners -- you'll often see residents walking their pups here. Who knows? Fido just might sniff out a new friend or two on your walk! You will want to bring your own water because there are few fountains along the marked trail and none on the shorter ones. Of course, you will need to bring doggie waste bags and make sure that you clean up after your dogs.
