The Buffalo Soldier Memorial Park surrounds the Buffalo Soldier Monument that honors the 9th and 10th Cavalry Regiment African-American soldiers, who were known for extraordinary bravery and military service. Located in Fort Leavenworth, an active U.S. Army installation, you'll have to sign in at the gate in order to visit. Once you’re on base, you can enjoy the FMWR Dog Park behind the Infantry Barracks, near the Hunt Lodge and Doniphan Field. Open from dawn to dusk, there are separate fenced-in areas for small and large doggos to run, play, and navigate the agility course. In case you decide to spend the night, America’s Best Value Inn is a dog-friendly place to spend the night. For extra supplies, you and your fluffy friend can make a quick stop at Westlake Hardware for pet food and other puptastic supplies. Head to the Buffalo Bill Cody Park for a pawtastic walk. This park sprawls across 15 acres of fur-iendly land. Spruce Street & South 20th

Head to Hawthorn Park in this neighborhood to enjoy 9.5 acres of land that await the explorations of you and your furry sniffer. Your pup will love the loop trail that encircles the entire park. 10th Avenue/Limit

Take your friendly pup to the 10th Avenue Park near Warren Middle School. The grassy triangular-shaped park is a great place to throw a ball or play fetch. A great way to get in some pawcersize is to walk or jog on the 1.39 mile paved portion of Five Mile Creek Trail found here. Adventurous pups might like to cross over the bridge to the other side of the creek to engage in extended sniffing and exploring. For those doggos who love climbing, Pilot Knob is the highest point in Leavenworth. Its history includes having been a significant trail marker for local Native American tribes, but four-legged explorers and their human companions will most appreciate the 360o view of the surrounding country at the 1,102-feet above sea level summit. The giant dome also marks the beginning of a rocky outcropping known as Pilot Knob Ridge, which continues to the west.
