Riverdale invites folks with a furry family member to its small community nestled at the base of some rolling hills of greenery. The Pequannock River forms a natural boundary for the borough. It is an inviting place to visit or maybe stay for a while. Two veterinary clinics operate in the borough, offering both routine and specialized dermatological care. Other emergency hospitals and a variety of specialists are just a short drive away.

The small community has three dedicated spaces for outdoor exercise, and all of them welcome dogs! Freedom Park has a large green open spot with a few picnic sites. The playground dominates this small oasis. Appelt Memorial Park is the pawfect place for you and Fido to commune with nature as you explore its wooded path near the Pequannock River.

For more extensive hikes,  a journey seventeen miles north will take you and your canine friend to Ramapo Valley County Reservation. This large recreation and conservation space of 4,000+ acres has twenty-four dedicated hiking trails. Leashed dogs are allowed on all the trails. A network of five looped trails attracts beginner hikers looking for an easier trek through the woods.

Ramapo is also a haven for many different species of wildlife, including squirrels, deer, and (occasionally) black bears! You can also pitch a tent or park a trailer here and stay awhile in one of three campgrounds. Dogs may enjoy a camping experience with their humans as long as they are kept on-leash.
