Check out the neighborhood’s largest park, Gwendolyn Brooks Park, where you’ll find verdant grass and trees. This furrific green space is a woofderful place to walk your leashed dog, or simply grab a seat under a shady tree and hang out with Fido. Gwendolyn Brooks Park also has a playground where kiddos can romp and a picnic area with tables and a grill. A few blocks to the northwest, you’ll find Croix Park. This pocket park is covered by big shady trees and has a picnic table in the center.

Southboro

If you and your pup are in search of a quiet, secluded area for a jaunt, head to Topeka’s Southboro neighborhood! About four miles from Pauline, this area is home to the 11.5-acre Matthews Park. This large natural area has been preserved to reflect Kansas’ native prairie landscape and it’s a pawsome place to walk your leashed dog! You and Fido will love trotting along the park’s pathway that makes two large loops around the park’s perimeter. There are a huge mature trees spaced throughout the park where you and your pooch can take a break and relax in the shade, too.

Highland

Your pup’s tail will be wagging when you visit Topeka’s Highland neighborhood! Leash your pooch and visit the area’s Betty Phillips Park, about four miles from Pauline. This big, beautiful park has a walking path that winds next to a wooded area with a creek flowing through it on one side, and a wide open grassy space on the other! Your pup will love all there is to see and sniff! The park also has a playground, picnic tables and athletic fields. Southern Hills

Trail-loving pooches and their people will love taking a stroll through Topeka’s Southern Hills neighborhood, about four miles from Pauline! The quiet residential area encompasses a stretch of the furrific 12-mile multiuse Landon Nature Trail! Especially pawpular for dog walking and biking, this beautiful rail-trail is lined with lush trees and native grasses. You and Fido will especially enjoy a jaunt down the shady, beautiful trail in the fall when the leaves are turning from green to glowing patinas of yellow and gold. The Southern Hills stretch of trail is extra pawsome as it meanders next to a babbling little creek.

Burlingame Acres

You and your leashed furry friend will have major fun in Topeka’s Burlingame Acres neighborhood, about four miles from Pauline! This area is home to Major Palm Park, a peaceful community green space with fun for the whole family! You and your pup will love strolling through the park’s grassy areas and sniffing the beautifully landscaped flowerbeds and shade trees. Kiddos will have a blast wearing themselves out on the playground and playing a pickup game of ball on the athletic fields. Major Palm Park is a furrific place for family gatherings as there’s a picnic area with a barbecue grill, too.
