The lighted walkway will take you past terraced and floating gardens, and several fishing piers. Many benches line the route and while this park is in the middle of downtown, there's a secluded feeling to it because of the sheltering canopies built in.
One of the features of the Riverwalk Park is the Vietnam Memorial Plaza, tucked within it. This is the largest memorial to Vietnam vets outside of Washington, DC. Restaurants, some with outdoor seating that's dog-friendly, line the park. Bridges across the river can be accessed on the riverwalk, and handsome wrought-iron fencing protects you and your fur-pup while providing some stately scenery. The riverwalk path is lighted, and it's open in the winter for walking or cross-country skiing with your furry bestie! Some impressive willow trees bow over the river's flow and flowers dot the landscape in the spring and summer. The surface is packed cinder in areas away from downtown, and paved with cement in others.
This historic park in the Lower West Side Community is a much-needed respite from the city's hustle and bustle, and a pawrfect walking route for you and your leashed pooch. Come for a sit on one of the many benches and watch the river and the world go by, or make a stop at one of the historic sites along the way.
