Fuller Park is a hidden gem in the neighborhood of the same name on Chicago's South Side. This ten-acre park has a wide range of amenities, including indoor and outdoor sports facilities, an outdoor pool, a playground, and large indoor spaces with meeting rooms. It's a great resource for the local community and hosts many events and celebrations.
What makes Fuller Park unique and a great place to bring your pup is the historic charm of its carefully manicured grounds. The Olmstead Brothers designed this park, which opened in 1911, and their attention to detail reflects the highest aspirations of that era. The majestic soaring timber frame of the auditorium and trimmed hedges and flowers around the elegant fountain just outside of it make this a popular location for weddings.
As you and your dog stroll under the tall trees and past sculpted terraces, you'll feel like you've traveled back in time. It's nice to sit near the fountain and give your dog some pets while you take a minute to relax. As you venture beyond the main building, you'll encounter something familiar and welcome for people who walk pups with energy to spare: a wide open lawn.
The expansive grounds of Fuller Park have hosted yoga festivals and other large events, and they're great for a good on-leash run with your dog. As always, be thoughtful and pick up after your dog using one of the trash cans provided by the park. Do note that the park's large lawn is mostly exposed to full sun, so be sure to bring your own water in warmer months. Also note there are shaded areas including spots with benches elsewhere in the park.
Fuller Park is the perfect place for a classic kind of day with your dog. Enjoy a good long run through the field and a moment of quiet repose by the fountain and you'll go home feeling great.
