Description

Rittenhouse Square is at the heart of one of Philadelphia's ritziest neighborhoods. Surrounded by high-end stores, five-star hotels, and some of Philadelphia's most expensive homes, it nonetheless retains the best quality of any city park: being open and welcoming to all. Far from being the site of exclusive events, it's a popular crossroads for a wide range of city dwellers. Rittenhouse Square is a common lunch spot for local workers and is favored by families looking for a place for their children to play.

One of the five original open-space parks planned by William Penn during Philadelphia's founding and development, Rittenhouse Square is rich with culture and history. Some of the city's most famous public sculptures, including "Lion Crushing the Serpent" and "Duck Girl," are located in the park. The fountain and reflecting pool in the central plaza help enhance the park's peaceful atmosphere. People love to come here to read, paint, do yoga, or just relax and take a break from the big-city hustle. Popular seasonal events like the spring festival, summer ball, and winter tree-lighting ceremony are also big draws. Be sure you bring water and waste bags along for your high class adventure!

There's no better place to bring your dog than Rittenhouse Square when you're wanting to get a feel for the city of Philadelphia and the wide range of people who call it home. It's also simply a beautiful place to walk. In addition to the sculptures and the reflecting pool, there are many other fine touches to the design of the park including manicured hedges, flower gardens, stone balustrades, and rows of benches under the shade of mature trees. Whether you want to connect to the buzz of the city or retreat into quiet reverie, Rittenhouse Square can't be beat.
