Introduction

What happens when you cross an Afghan Hound with a Briard? You get an Afaird! AfairdsĀ are a beautiful breed with the best qualities from both parent breeds. You can be sure that your Afaird will be loyal and spirited, which means two things. One, they will never willingly leave your side. Two, they need to be entertained, otherwise "pawful" things will happen. If you're worried about keeping your Afaird busy, then worry no more! We have collected a series of fun activities suited to your dog. Some activities will require careful planning, while others are spontaneous games. They all have one thing in common though - they're a lot of fun!

Activity description
The most fun can be had by simply turning an ordinary task into an adventure. One day you'll find yourself feeling bored at home, and you will wonder what you can do that hasn't already been done. The answer is simple - go shopping. This might sound boring at first, but if you turn it into a bonding adventure with your beloved dog, the two of you will soon be rid of your boredom. All you need to do is follow these simple steps, and you won't be able to wait for the next bout of boredom. Your dog won't know what they're in for, but they will pick up on your excitement.
Step
1
Train them
Before you can embark on your shopping adventure, your dog will need a certain skill set. As children, we are taught not to grab things off the shelves or bark at other customers. Your dog hasn't been taught that yet, which means it is up to you to make sure that your dog won't terrorize the pet store.
Step
2
Pick a store
Most stores prefer it if you do not bring your dog along, which can cut in on the fun. Choose your favorite pet store, and make sure that they accommodate your canine friend. If your dog doesn't get along well with other animals, then it might be a good idea to give this activity a skip.
Step
3
Take a good look
Take your time browsing with your best friend. Test out which toys they would like the most (side note, if your dog puts it in their mouth, you have to pay for it) and see what the store has to offer. If you live in a large area, you could take a walking tour of all your local pet-friendly shops. The only limit is your imagination and store rules.

Activity description
If you have social media, then you have probably seen pictures of pet parades. If so, you're probably wondering - how do you get your dog into a pet parade? Or, why haven't you done one yet? If you have already participated in a pet parade, then you know what to do, so go ahead and plan your next one. If not, then don't worry. It is very simple and all you have to is a little research. Pet parades are a lot of fun, but most importantly they teach your dog valuable skills. After a pet parade, your dog will be more sociable and will probably have learned a few new tricks in the process.
Step
1
Research
The simplest way to join a pet parade is by doing your research. There might be a pet parade in your area, or you can join a local doggy playgroup and arrange one. If you don't want to join a massive parade yet, then maybe you could arrange for a smaller affair.
Step
2
Prepare
As with most things, parades require a certain level of preparation. You might need to get a costume for your dog or teach them a certain routine. Either way, preparation is part of the fun! Practicing and training get you excited for the main event. And prepares you for the big day, you wouldn't want to be the odd ones out. Or maybe you do, depending on the theme.
Step
3
Selfies!
The big day has finally arrived. All your research and preparation has paid off! Be sure to take a lot of pictures, because this is a day you'll never forget. Don't forget to share your memories with us! We'd love to see your Afaird participating in a pet parade.

Kiddie Pool
Activity description
The weather outside is hot, and all you want to do is melt or relax in a pool. Or both. Either way, you may not be in the mood to run around with various toys trying to entertain your dog. You do want to entertain them, you just don't want to fall prey to the merciless sun. There is also the danger of dehydration. With this activity, you can melt in a pool while keeping your dog busy. So basically, you have the best of both options and no-one loses out on anything. Isn't that what life is all about?
Step
1
Throw the ball in the pool
The point of the activity is to make your dog want the ball. Every time they try and pick the ball up with their mouths, the ball will be pushed under the water and will float away from them. In a small, hard plastic kiddie pool, they have to go to the other side to try again. The game acts as a sort of brain teaser. If you have a larger pool, then you will have to keep pushing the ball within reach.
Step
2
Make it a challenge
For every ball your dog retrieves, they get a treat. You can make the game even more challenging by adding more balls to the pool. The balls can be different sizes and colors to make it more interesting. If your dog becomes frustrated, you could always give them a win by holding the ball still.
Step
3
Relax
This activity should confound your dog for a little while. This means that they will be mentally stimulated and work off that boredom in a healthy way. Just make sure that your dog knows how to swim and how to get in and out of the pool for safety reasons.

More Fun Ideas...

Tug of War

One easy way to spend some of your dog's energy is by starting a tug of war over their favorite toy. Your Afaird will not want to let go easily, so you will find yourself in a very serious game, you may even lose without meaning to! Either way, it's a lot of fun.

Flirt Pole

Whether you buy one at the pet store or make one at home, flirt poles are a great way to have some fun with your dog. They go crazy for these toys and you will have a lot of fun playing with them. If you run out of ideas or energy, a flirt pole will always be there for you.

Conclusion

Your Afaird shares DNA with two of the best dog breeds in the world. This means that you have an amazing hybrid who will keep you company for years to come. Instead of boring yourselves with ordinary games, or falling into a rut, you can use these activities to keep your dog entertained and spend some quality time together. So, if the boredom kicks in, then participate in a pet parade, or go shopping. If all else fails, you could always break out the old flirt pole and have some fun with that. Any time spent with your dog is quality time.
