Introduction

If you are looking for a well-rounded dog that will bring a lot of love and joy into your family home, then adopt a Beago. A Beago has the Golden Retriever and Beagle as parents, creating a dog that loves affection and to play. However, don’t let the small size of this breed fool you. They still require a substantial amount of exercise and mental stimulation every day. If they don’t get it, you can say goodbye to your favorite pair of shoes or anything else at dog height they can sink their teeth into! Try these activities below to make sure your Beago gets as much entertainment and physical activity as they need.

If you own a Beago, then you are going to need to set time aside for trips to the dog park. Out of a number of breeds, a Beago is going to be one that craves play and dog socialization the most. You may even find they seek out the company of other dogs when you go for a walk or they see them on the street when you’re driving past. Therefore, don’t underestimate the power of an hour-long trip to the dog park. This free activity is one that will make your dog turn into a lunatic with excitement! What’s more, it’s one that only requires a leash, toy, and doggy waste bag.

Step
1
Choose a park
The sooner you choose a park for your dog to attend, the quicker you can get them out the door to enjoy fun in the sun! To find the best dog park for your pup, look online. Check out reviews, dog parks near you, and find one that welcomes all dogs of all sizes. Your dog’s size is somewhere in the middle.
Step
2
Play
It won’t take long to convince your dog that they are going to have a lot of fun at a dog park. As soon as they see other dogs playing, they will be off like a rocket to join in. You may not even need to give them their toy, as they will be off on their own adventure to find a new friend. There is no denying that this exceptionally social dog is one that will take to a dog park environment like a duck to water.

Sweet potato
Peanut Butter Jar
PVC Pipe

Rope
Activity description

While it’s easy enough to entertain your Beago when the sun is shining, it can be a little more challenging when the colder weather hits. Rather than battle galeforce winds and driving rain as you take them for a walk, why not think a little outside the square? A moderately challenging but affordable food puzzle could be the answer. You can make them at home, flex your creative muscles, and provide your dog with an hour of entertainment. While it won’t appeal to their physical need for activity, it will most certainly cater to their mental stimulation requirements.

Step
1
Peanut butter jar
The easiest and quickest food puzzle is a regular peanut butter jar. As soon as you finish with it, remove the lid and hand it to your dog. Peanut butter is a fail-safe treat for dogs (be vigilant in checking that it does not have xylitol), but keeping it in the jar provides a mental challenge. They then have to work hard to get all that delicious goodness out of it!
Step
2
PVC pipe treat
If you’re fairly handy with power tools and have spare PVC pipe lying around, then use it to your advantage. Put a cap on each end of a short piece of pipe, then drill holes around it. You can then pop in some treats and let your dog spend an hour or more trying to get them out of the small holes!
Step
3
Sweet potato rope
If your dog is looking a little round and you don’t want to give them store-bought treats, then opt for more natural snacks instead. Tie a rope into a large knot with dried rings of sweet potato on it. The dog will love trying to tear them off the rope, but they will also enjoy getting to eat them as well.

Paddling pool
Toy
Towel
Activity description

On a hot summer’s day, it’s not all that easy to cool your dog down. They don’t sweat as humans do, and not all of them make the connection that the sun is the reason why they are so hot. Therefore, they’re not all smart enough to retreat to the shade! If it’s too hot to do anything else, why not set up a paddling pool in your yard? This free and easy activity is one that your dog will enjoy, all the while offering them the opportunity to cool down. All you need is a toy for them to play with around the water, a paddling pool, and a towel.

Step
1
Set up the pool
Beagos can often be short in stature which means that you need to be careful with how full you fill their paddling pool. The goal is to cool them down, but you also don’t want to make them paddle for hours on end just to get cool. When you set up the pool, make sure the water is a depth they can manage. Set it up with shade available, if possible, and make sure they can get out of it easily if they want to.
Step
2
Introduce them
Not every dog takes to water that easily, and it may take some coaxing. You may even need to get into the water with them. Use a fun, energetic voice to get your furry friend into the mood, and sit in the pool with their toys as well. It may take a few goes, but eventually, your dog will see the value in dipping their paws in!
Step
3
Play
Once they are used to the water and the pool, you can now play. Throw their toy in the water so they can retrieve it. A game of fetch in the paddling pool is bound to appeal to their Golden Retriever parentage. You can also include fresh snacks they have to dive for which can be a fun twist.

More Fun Ideas...

Frisbee

Golden Retrievers love to retrieve, which is why it makes sense for your Beago to as well. When you have 20 minutes to spare, grab a frisbee and head into your backyard for a quick game. Frisbees are one of the most aerodynamic toys which means they fly far further than other toys. You are sure to find that the endless running will burn off your furry friend’s energy far quicker than other activities.

Chew Toys

To stop your dog from chewing your shoes and kids toys, make sure you have plenty of dog-friendly chew toys on-hand. You can purchase these from any pet store or vet clinic - all of which appeal to both gentle and tough chewers. Remember, even though this is a fun activity your dog can do solo, you will need to supervise to make sure they don’t swallow any pieces they chew off!

Conclusion

When you own a Beago, you never have an opportunity to be sad. Their energy, pawsitive personality and happy-go-lucky attitude will always put a smile on your face while warming your heart at the same time. In return, you can provide them with fun activities to keep them happy and healthy. Try these few above, or why not come up with a few of your own?
