Introduction

Border Beagles are an adorable hybrid dog breed that has recently started to gain a great reputation among dog enthusiasts around the globe. These medium sized dogs are very smart and adaptable, making them excellent additions to families of all kinds. Border Beagles can trace their parentage back to the ever popular Border Collie and the always reliable Beagle. Both of these breeds have a wide array of great qualities that they have passed on to their Border Beagle offspring, meaning that they can get in on many of the activities one would engage in with a Border Collie or a Beagle.

Activity description
Border Beagles are wiry sorts for the most part; the vast majority of them love to run and play, as their parentage has imbued them with the type of energy that'll allow them to run circles around most other animals - including a number of humans who don't run or exercise regularly! The goal of this activity is to help your Border Beagle learn how to use all of that energy more constructively and to help them gain better control over their urges and impulses to rip and run all over the place. There are levels to this activity though, so we'll go through it step by step as usual.
Step
1
On Your mark, get set...
Just about any piece of dog-friendly furniture can be used to create an obstacle course for your pet; chairs, sofas, ladders, and slides all work as pieces of the puzzle. So long as you make sure that the items you intend to place in the obstacle course are up to snuff and hazard free, you'll be able to get through this step in no time at all.
Step
2
Go!
The best way to incentivize your dog to complete an activity with a lot of praise a little treat for their efforts. Early on, you may have to coax your dog to get through this activity one segment at a time. We suggest going about things like this; encourage your dog to finish one segment of the course then reward them with a treat and some love once they do. Demonstrate if needed, or even traverse parts of the DIY course along with your dog when possible. Soon, they will understand the route!

Scent Work

Activity description
Beagles have some of the best senses of smell among all of the members of the canine kingdom; their sense of smell is so refined that many Beagles are recruited to work as service dogs and help their human companions find missing persons. Border Beagles have inherited that sense of smell and can learn to become great service dogs in their own right, once given the proper training. There are numerous ways to get your dog the scent training as well; you can take them to a professional trainer or you can gather a number of dog-safe scented items and attempt to train your dog yourself.
Step
1
Choosing the right aromas
First off, verify with your vet which scents are safe for your dog to work with. Dogs aren't exactly able to say what their favorite scents are the way humans can, so many people often find it difficult to tell which smells their dogs like. The smell of your dog's favorite food is probably a safe bet, as well as any scents that they've come to associate with you (cologne, perfume) Aside from that, dogs tend to like the smell of lavender and peppermint.
Step
2
Setting up the stage
The stage, in this case, is any area that has enough space for your dog to move around freely while also having enough places where one can cleverly hide the items they'd like their dog to find. Parks are great places to try this activity, as well as woodland areas and most beaches.
Step
3
Time to search
Put the approved scent on a rag and allow your pup to sniff it. Have a friend hold your dog while you hide the item. Tell your Border Beage to "find" which should be a relatively easy task. If they need help, provide it until they get the gist of the game. Once they have it, you can increase the difficulty by moving the item farther away or hiding it up in a tree. Be sure to praise your pup when they return with the treasure!

Activity description
We've alluded to the Border Beagle's energetic and wiry disposition at various times throughout this article, so here's an activity that'll help you reel that in. Obedience training is an activity that's absolutely crucial to helping your Border Beagle not only gain a measure of self control but also learn to see you as the leader of the pack. Border Beagles aren't the types of dogs that will try to assert themselves as the Alpha, but the skills afforded to them via obedience training will prove invaluable for many years to come. We recommend introducing your dog to puppy obedience classes as soon as their vaccinations are in effect.
Step
1
Research and recon
We might be playing things up for dramatic effect, but using the resources at your disposal to find the best obedience trainer for your dog is definitely something you will want to do as soon as possible. Use the internet to find local obedience trainers in your area, check their rates, and see if they have a facility of their own or if they'll need to come to your place regularly. If you're intrigued by a particular trainer, but aren't entirely sold on them, give them a call and ask them a number of questions that are relevant to your dog.
Step
2
Getting to work
Most obedience training courses will start off with the basics; teaching your dog to respond to commands, and helping them to understand when you do and don't want them to do something. These parts might sound easy to the uninitiated, but they can wind up proving to be much more difficult than one may have imagined if you're not mentally prepared for this activity. Just know that while progress might seem slow, your dog will be much better behaved so long as you two finish the course.

Cup Game

Border Beagles will really get a kick out of this activity, as it tests their ability to pay attention, memorize, and then act on the information they've been given. To try this activity out, you'll need at least three cups and one item that'll catch your dog's interest (a dog treat or their favorite toy.) Hide the item under one of the cups, shuffle them around, and then prompt your dog to guess which cup the item is hidden under.

Dress Up

This activity isn't too physically or mentally strenuous, but boy is it fun! Border Beagles, like their Beagle parents, are one of those dogs breeds that don't seem to mind playing dress up with their human companions from time to time. If you've got an oversized hat or quirky T-shirt that you think would look great on your dog, try them out!

Conclusion

Border Beagles are darling dogs that can learn to become great family pets, companion animals, and service dogs once given the proper guidance. Border Beagles tend to have a lot of energy that they need to expend and they prefer to do it in creative ways as opposed to falling into a routine that's a bit too repetitive for their tastes. That's why we'd like to encourage you to continue looking for diverse and exciting activities you and your Border Beagle can try out together.
