Introduction

Boxer-Dalmatian mixes, often called Boxmatians, are large dogs that enjoy a lot of exercise and activity. These dogs tend to be quite large, so they need to stay active to prevent weight gain, which can lead to problems with various joints in the legs. With all of the energy that these dogs tend to have, you have a new workout partner. We have a list of fun activities that you can participate in with your pooch.

Activity description

Hiking is a great way to let your Boxmatian release a lot of energy in a short amount of time. A brisk walk should be achieved during a hiking trip, so keep the hike to about an hour. In most cases, you can take your dog hiking for very little money. Make sure that you do have a good-quality leash and a dog first aid kit, however. Water is also crucial for a hiking trip. Try to avoid hiking during inclement weather. You should aim for days that are sunny with moderate temperatures. If you start to notice that your dog is overheating, it is time to end the hike.

Step
1
Scope out a spot
Finding a hiking trail can be difficult in some parts of the country. You might want to look at a map of your area to see if there are any nature trails that you can visit. Be sure that you start out with a short hiking path that isn't too difficult because your dog needs to get used to going on hikes with you.
Step
2
Hit the trail
It is time to get your dog out on the trail. Lace up your shoes and leash up your pup. Your Boxmatian will love exploring the great outdoors with you. Keep your dog on the path (leashes are very important to protect your dog) to prevent injuries. Regardless, bring a first aid kit. Stop if your dog starts to get overheated or exhausted.

Activity description

A dog park is the perfect place for a Boxmatian. Plus, a trip to the dog park is free and easy for you as the dog owner. Let your dog run and romp with other local dogs for a truly fun experience for all of the dogs in the park. Be sure to monitor your dog while at the dog park to make sure that there are no incidents. Dogs can be a bit unpredictable, so make sure that your pooch is under control. While your dog is running and playing, you can take a little time to relax, or you can have a little fun with your dog as well.

Step
1
Find a dog park
Finding a dog park is going to be very easy if you live in a dog-friendly city, but for some people in the United States, there may not be a dog park nearby. Plan your trip on a day with sunny, but not overly hot weather. If it starts to get too warm, make sure that you have water for your pooch.
Step
2
Let loose
The dog park is a place for your dog to be itself. These dogs like a lot of exercise, so expect them to run and play with the other dogs for about an hour. It is unlikely that your Boxmatian will be happy with a 20 minute trip to the dog park - they have a ton of energy to burn!

Frisbee
Treats
Activity description
You've probably seen countless videos on the internet of dogs leaping through the air to catch a Frisbee. In some of these videos, the dogs succeed. In others, we chuckle at the clumsiness of man's best friend. Teach your dog to catch a Frisbee for a cheap activity that you can do in your own yard! No need to spend a lot of money or time on this activity, because you can teach your dog how to play without much hassle. Just get a Frisbee and a bunch of treats to reward your dog for good behavior and catching abilities. Not only will your Boxmatian learn a new skill, but they will also let off some steam in the process!
Step
1
Introduce the Frisbee
Place the Frisbee on the ground near your dog and let them explore the new object. Let them walk on it and maybe even pick it up! Without this step, your dog may be a bit frightened when you start throwing some weird object and expect them to go catch it. When your dog approaches and touches the Frisbee, reward them with a treat.
Step
2
Drop the Frisbee
Many dogs don't like to give up toys when they are having fun, but it is important to teach your dog to give you the Frisbee on command. Give your dog the Frisbee, give them the release command, and give the Frisbee back. Repeat this process until your dog has the hang of it. This is a crucial part of Frisbee fun!
Step
3
Catch the Frisbee
Now, you can finally get to the throwing and catching bit. Stand close to your Boxmatian, and gently toss the Frisbee. If your dog catches it, instruct them to release the toy, and reward them with a treat. If they don't catch it. Stand as though you will throw it, and place the Frisbee in your dog's mouth. Once your dog is used to catching the Frisbee, start adding more and more distance.
