Activity description
Bullkitas are a breed that absolutely thrives in the cold weather. In fact, they far prefer the cold over hot summer days. Take advantage of your dog's love for the frigid air by heading outside and teaching your dog how to skijor. The Akita part of your pup will love being outside in the cold and the Bulldog side will be excited to work hard, pulling you across a ski trail. It may take a while to properly train your dog to skijor (and you need to make sure you have some nice fluffy snow to learn in) but once your dog learns the ropes, they will love it!
Step
1
Quality harness
Have your Bulkita fitted properly for a good, quality harness. If the harness doesn't fit your dog well, it can hurt them and make your pup not want to skijor at all. Once you find a good harness, let your dog wear it around the house or go for a walk with the harness on. This will help them get used to wearing it and be ready when you start adding weight.
Step
2
Light pull
Head outside on a snowy day to a flat stretch of land where you will have space to train. Attach a small sled with a tiny bit of weight to your Bullkita's harness then coax them forward, using treats. Once your dog takes a few steps forward, they will get more and more use to pulling weight with the harness. Add more weight gradually until your pup is pulling enough to match your body weight.
Step
3
Start Skiing!
Put on your skis and attach yourself to your dog's harness using a long lead and a waist belt for yourself. Have a friend lure your Bullkita forward while you say the command "mush" which will eventually be the word which makes your dog run! After the first few slow pulls, your Bullkita will become focused and ready to pull while you get to go for a fun ride with your dog!

Activity description
While American Bulldogs are very friendly pups, getting along with almost everyone, Akitas can be a little bit tougher to break. This means that your Bulkita will likely display both of these traits, being very friendly to some yet hesitant around others. The best way to make sure your Bullkita is a social dog is to expose them to all kinds of people and pets and luckily, making friends can be quite easy! Follow these steps (all of which are free) and soon your Bullkita will be the friendliest pup on the block. Weather doesn't affect friendship so you can give these a try anytime!
Step
1
Human friends
Invite your family and friends over to interact with your Bullkita often. The more your dog is around people, the happier they will be mainly because they will be getting a lot of attention, something a Bullkita loves! Tell your friends to pet your dog, give them treats and dote on them overall - sounds like the equation to make friends for sure!
Step
2
Dog park friends
Bring your Bullkita to a local dog park where they will be able to run and play with all kinds of dogs. This breed can be a little snappy toward smaller dogs so be sure to keep an eye on them the first few times you go. Correct any poor behavior on the spot with gentle but firm discipline and treats.
Step
3
Young friends
While bulldogs love kids (and everyone), Akitas can be a little wary of smaller children. The way kids move quickly and unpredictably in addition to their small size can frighten your pup. Let your Bullkita be around kids as much as possible, always with supervision. Once they are comfortable with how a child behaves, they will be just as friendly to kids as they are to everyone!

Kiddie Pool

Activity description
American Bulldogs are obsessed with playing in the water. They can run in and out of it all day, smiling that Bulldog smile the whole time. Akitas are also fans of the water but more so fans of anything that will cool them off. Next time the weather turns warm, try these fun games to keep your Bullkita nice and cool and also entertained. Everything here is easy to set up and fairly inexpensive, just the cost of a few toys. To play in the water with your pup you will want a nice warm day and possibly some sunshine!
Step
1
Pool life
Grab a kiddie pool from a local store and get it set up in your yard in a shady spot. You don't want the pool to be in the sun or the water inside can get quite hot! Show your Bullkita their new pool and they will likely walk right in, lie down and not move for hours - talk about a great life! Lounge poolside with your dog and enjoy the nice weather (or get in there with them)!
Step
2
Wet fetch
Soak a few tennis balls in water and then head outside to play fetch with your Bullkita. Throw the wet ball and watch as it sprays water the second it hits the ground or goes in your pup's mouth. This will be quite an exciting surprise for a dog who was expecting to catch a dry tennis ball!
Step
3
Water run
Set a few sprinklers up in your yard and get your bathing suit on. Turn the water on and run around with your Bullkita, straight through the sprinklers with your pup not far behind! While everyone will be soaking wet after this game, it is one of the most fun and childlike things you can do with your pup in the hot weather - total fun for everyone.
